Chernobyl today, a photo essay by a local motorcyclist
http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/page2.html

This is one of the saddest things I've seen in a very long time.

Even if you don't feel a need to comment, follow it through and see these images. I think you will be moved.

If anyone can mirror this page it would be great, Anglefire has some bandwidth limits and I would hate to see this site go away.

9. No, thank you for looking
I hope everyone here can learn a little something from this.

One of the points I walked away with from this is that people will continue as best they can no matter what until utterly destroyed and that hasn't happened yet, even there.

The fight to live continues, everyday, everywhere.

May all of you have a more pleasent battle ground than those poor souls.

2. That was very moving...
...to see the whole town empty, just as it was 18 years ago. Spooky.

5. Heartbreaking.
Some former neighbors/turned missionaries were going to the Ukraine to live in 1989, taking their 4yo and 1 yo with them. I have never wanted to call anybody a fool so badly in my life. I just cannot see knowingly exposing kids to radiation. I've lost touch with them, so I don't know how they're doing.

8. Thanks
for mirroring that website. It would be a shame to lose that information and her pictures.
What a sad, unbelieveable and frightening disaster that was and still is.

The rest of the world COULD learn from this, but...they won't.

Thank you for putting this up.

I looked to see if I could find a way to contact that young woman but found nothing.

10. I'm going to bookmark this and read the hold thing later.
Disturbing pictures to say the least. A few years ago, 60 Minutes sent...(oh, whats-his-name) there for a followup story. It was heartbreaking.

"I am 25 years old friendly female." - What a doll, though. You can almost hear her accent in her written words.
