Can anyone identify the dead rocker?
My daughter just described this. A rocker in the 70s (she thinks) was classified a suicide after being stabbed twice in the heart while his girlfriend was in the room, and I take it is commonly not considered a suicide. That's her summary, and I can't figure out who she means. I asked about Sid Vicious, she says no, and she would know who Sid Vicious was.

Any idea?

1. Sounds exactly like Sid & Nancy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Vicious

Is was Sid who stabbed Nancy....Sid later died of a heroin overdose.

2. Yeah, I know, but she says it isn't, and she knows who Sid Vicious is.
Rather well, actually, he's kind of a private joke.

She's taking a history of rock course in high school, and as usual with her, has remembered just enough details to be intriguing, but not enough to be informative.:)

7. That's how she told the story. She says her teacher showed the class
that he could not have committed suicide because he was stabbed twice in the heart. She may have the story jumbled, but she would have known Sid Vicious's name, so it isn't him. Her best friend was dating someone who worshipped Sid Vicious, so we spent some time trying to convince her that a Sid Vicious wannabee was not the safest of boyfriends.

My other thought was Sam Cook, but she knows him, too, and he wasn't stabbed. Also, her teacher has talked about Cook's death before.

5. Nancy died first....
She was stabbed dead and then Sid was arrested, and later released from jail...
and Sid died from a drug overdose sometime later.

6. It was Elliot Smith
and he died in 2003...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott_Smith

..."Elliott Smith died on October 21, 2003 at age 34 from two stab wounds to the chest. According to girlfriend Jennifer Chiba, with whom he was living at the time, the two were arguing, and she locked herself in the bathroom to take a shower. Chiba heard him scream, and upon opening the door, saw Smith standing with a kitchen knife in his chest. She pulled the knife out, after which he collapsed and she called 911. Smith died in the hospital with the time of death listed as 1:36 p.m. While Smith's death was originally reported as a suicide, the official autopsy report released in December 2003 left open the question of possible homicide. A possible suicide note, written on a Post-it, read, "I'm so sorry—love, Elliott. God forgive me."...

9. Yes, that's it!! Thanks. She was wrong on the era, then.
Not unusual, she's failing history, too. :(

Dunno if the emo guy qualifies as a "rocker," but get yer Wikipedia details here. Of course, 2003 isn't exactly the '70s, is it? Is this a popular exit for musicians?

Shit. Beat to the punch when I got lured down another rabbit hole on the intertoobs. :eyes:

11. I hate that.
You start a reply, get sidetracked a minute or two, then post, only to find out someone else posted and you look like you didn't read the whole thread. Happens to me all the time, with as long as I take to finish a post. :)
