It is due to the fact that, when I joined this site in 2002, I was so eager to find and participate in a progressive community that I signed up using what was at time the beginning of my e-mail address. It was uncreative, unoriginal and designed to get me posting on this site as quickly as possible.

In 2004 I wanted to change but I was a moderator at the time and it was probably the case that changing my username would confuse everybody when they saw a new username appearing out of nowhere as a moderator. But the main reason I didn't do so was because it was harder to do as a moderator

So now I am taking the opportunity to come up with something more creative -although I'm still using my old username
