My kerosene heater is either the miracle menorrah or a perpetual motion engine
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 12:10 AM by Orrex
So I'm cleaning my wick, as it were, according to the instructions included with the heater.

Step One: when the fuel level is very low, take the damn thing outside and burn off the rest of it.

Well, I noticed early this afternoon that the gauge was well below "E." So at about 4:30 I ignited it and went about my business.

It's now 12:05 here, and the damn thing is still going. Just what the hell does "E" mean, anyway?

The "E" means "Endless."

1. I always thought it stood for "enough"
But it turns out I was wrong. As I walked to the gas station.

2. we had a truck that did that
changed out a fuel pump and the gauge started reading backwards. So E was "enough" and F was "fucked". Never could figure out what we did wrong, but it was a dodge so we didn't try too hard.

3. Still going...
I went out to check on it at about 1:00 last night and it was still going. The flame was pretty low, but it was still making a clear whoosh-whoosh sound.

So I lit it again at around 10:00 this morning. It's now 3:40, and the heater is still going. Whoosh-whoosh.

Why would they put the "Empty" indicator at a place on the gauge that really means "You have fourteen hours of fuel left?"
