He voted for Bush for Governor and President.

He called me today, I haven't talked to him for years.

I told him we have a new President and things will get better.

I would have liked to tell him more but I didn't.

1. Read him the Riot Act!
Nail his butt on the REAL economy, and how it affected HIM.
The President called on Americans to do their part.
Here's your part, for now. Further assignments later.

2. We haven't talked for a long time because I told him Bush was a terrible President.
He is 62 so can collect SS and I guess he has savings.

I will never understand working people voting republican.

His son was living large, now he is in trouble.

They are both republicans.

I so wanted to tell him you asked for it voting for Bush.

If he calls me again I will tell him how I feel.

I still remember what my brother said about Anne Richards, that is hard to forgive.

3. IMHO, your bro and neph are Republican KoolAid drinkers
No disrespect intended. One gets what one votes for.
They're on the wrong side of history. We aren't.

10. "one get what one votes for' I didn't vote for this shit! I so wish that those who did vote for
past 8 yrs of shit, were the only ones too get what they voted for. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

4. pretty much it is your obligation to taunt and cast judgment on him...
i mean that is what we do, right?

if a 62 year old man has made bad choices and is now down on his luck, we should spare no opportunity to kick him when he is down. family? brother? pfffttt... it makes no difference.

it's what a good liberal democrat should do, right?

right?

or maybe, just maybe, we should hear what obama is saying and perhaps show a compassion that they never did as a lesson on how to live life. show a compassion to family and hard times...

nah, i agree with you. "get a job" is a great thing to yell at down and out repukes.

because we are superior.

6. I don't think he still understands.
He is pretty hard core republican type.

Believe me he still will be voting republican, all the way to the poorhouse.

12. the only people who should vote repug are the Wall Street types
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 10:50 AM by rurallib
workers, farmers, teachers, small business owners, professionals, religious types should have nothing to do with Republicans. Yet they vote republican.
Edit to add: I about strangled a woman this fall. She was part of a union that was locked out out and I was walking the line to support them one day. She said that maybe this year she would vote for Democrats for the first time. She must have been @50 so probably voting since Reagan.

13. Working people
That has always been the one thing that baffles me the most. How can ordinary people working ordinary jobs, living basically paycheck to paycheck, ever even consider voting Republican???!!!

It simply boggles the mind!

11. extend a hand to him
I witnessed a miracle this year with my own brother, a lifelong republican who at one tome had a virtual shrine to reagan in his house. After taking a financial beating year after year, he finally pulled his head out of the sand and looked around. When he took a real look at was going on, he marched down to the election board, switched his registration from R to D and the first Democratic vote he ever cast was a straight D ticket!!

Maybe your brother will come around, maybe he won't, but at least give him a chance.

14. I feel sorry for him
and I've also found that people will come to conclusions on their own with a bit of prodding. The fact that you didn't rub his nose in it or read him the riot act was probably a relief to him.

He's family.

He'll come around in his own time.

21. My republican friend's husband lost jobs six times under Bush
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 12:48 PM by 1gobluedem
Just lost one two weeks ago, in fact.

He had the same job during the entire Clinton administration. But neither one of them can make the connection, they still vote GOP. Sigh.
