I've mentioned the others as being enjoyable (with the Cher being a little inconsistent but with great highs,) but Maren Ord's is a new one I love. I'd give it an A. She's like a cross between Michelle Branch and Sarah McLachlan. You can tell she really searched out the best musicians, and despite being a Mormon, Maren's lyrics aren't too preachy. They aren't the typical Celine lyrics about love, either.

Just ordered Butterfly Boucher's album called Flutterby.

and it is too...there's an indy station in Rockport on the coast, and the University of Maine has a cool college station, but for central Maine, we are the only indy/alternative station (before my show is a metal show, then there's mine with a psych/folk/freak out format, followed by two rap dj's...

It's a very cool station...we webcasted at first, then when the CARP rules came in, we stopped...I was surprised/very happy when they started again this week...

It was 90.5, and SOMEBODY (not me!) didn't refile for a license...when it came up, some corporate entity (not sure if it was CC or infinity) grabbed the frequency...the station was down for a few months, and then got a new low power license (used to be 5000 watts, now a puny 1000 watts).

Heads rolled I understand :(

Have you ever had occasion to see the Asylum Street Spankers? They are a well-traveled Austin acoustic blues and anything-else-you-can-think-of band. Their lead singer is awesome. She can go from Betty Boop to Bessie Smith to the B-52's almost in one breath.

They are excellent musicians who don't stand on ceremony and have a very biting sense of humor. They are on tour right now in parts east. I'm going to see them in Bryn Mawr, PA in April. I never miss the chance to see them.

By the way, their lead singer, Christina Marrs, is extremely anti-Bush. She's got a sticker on one of her instrument cases that says "Bush is a Punk-ass Chump!" That, and her rendition of "I've Got My Mojo Workin'" is worth your trip.
