I'm going to end up sounding really whine-y, but it can't be avoided. We were dropped off in a car, so we were spared the REALLY long trek from the Metro that a lot of people had to go through. Still, it was a hike from where we were dropped off. We stood in line a long time to get in, and then once inside, you stand and stand and stand (there's no place to sit down.) The food sucks, and is minimal ($150 for this???) and the wait to get a drink isn't worth it. We were at the Mid-Atlantic one, so it was nearly 11:30 before the Prez and Michelle arrived (and stayed for all of about five minutes.) By that time, people had been milling and small-talking for a long time. Wyclef Jean was cool -- that was good music, but the crowd didn't really appreciate it. I saw J-Lo from about twenty feet away, and must say that she really is quite beautiful. By the time the President arrived, my feet were killing me. Some women had even resorted to sitting down on the floor, ball-gown and everything. Feet in heels will only take so much.
I was about 100 feet away from the First Couple, but even that was pretty cool. And no, I didn't like her dress. I think it put 20 lbs. on her, and she clearly didn't feel comfortable with the train. Kept fussing with it and worrying that it was in her or Barack's way. Nice color, though.
We left literally five minutes after they left. I will not wear stupid shoes again for a very long time, unless threatened with death.
How was YOUR experience? I couldn't handle the cold or the crowd, so watched the festivities on TV. Part of me wished I were there, though -- just to be part of it all.
(And what's with the name change? I don't like all this change. It's discombobulating.) ;)
