24. Oh, don't bust on Hormel.
Between the $1 can of Hormel vegetarian chili I got on sale and a box of spaghetti, I can get 3-4 meals out of $2. Quite handy when you're not getting paid. (Which is unfortunately common when you're an independent contractor. I found $100K in funding for an indie film project and they've not paid me. Bastards.) Add in the two $1.29/dz. doughnut packages I got and you've got some idea what I'm living on this week.

Most pub food is crap. There was one place on Bishopsgate in London that specialized in sausages, though - mmmmmmmm.

I worked at a pub in the countryside this summer, which had surprisingly good food. It was also free, which makes it even better.

61. I heard about that place on NPR
From their quiz show "Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me!"

It was about a restraunt by a major university that simply sold cheap dorm food for the poor student on the go. Hot Pockets, PB&J, and Raman Noodles were all on the menu.

Now the only problem is that I can't remember if, in the quiz, it was the real story or one of the made-up ones... :-)

All mashed, all the time. Choice of chicken gravy, beef gravy, turkey gravy, or butter. And that's the sum total of the menu.

Thru-A-Straw

It would serve popular American food, such as burgers, steaks, nachos, fried chicken, etc., except that all the entrees are pureéd in an industrial blender and put in a 44-oz cup with a straw.

And of course it would have a drive-thru... :-)

78. Read it. I am a big fan of polar expedition accounts.
Great historical gothic horror novel, but Sir John Franklin wasn't actually the doddering fool portrayed in the story.

The best book I ever read about the actual hardships and almost superhuman effort of Antarctic expeditions was "The Worst Journey In The World", written by Apsley Cherry-Garrard.

It is a first-person account by a member of the last and ill-fated Scott Expedition.

93. I've actually put a lot of thought into this
One of my ideas is an S&M restaurant where you are chained to the table, your server smokes (I came up with this pre-ban), and you have to beg for permission to go to the bathroom.

A more developed idea I have is for the Holy Grill. All you can eat fish and bread on Fridays, 12 stations of the cross sampler platter, the cheeses of Nazareth plate, etc. I have more for this one, but not sure I want to go into it.

We had a Road Kill Cafe in Lincoln NH. It closed several years ago. Pity, but I have one of their menus kicking around somewhere.
