I'm not sure what a "admissions interview" entails. I simply showed up at my college-of-choice and pulled out my checkbook. That was good enough for them! Or course, I haven't landed a career in my field of study, but...

I know you'll do well! :hi:

And have you applied to that 'better school', Yale?
;-)
I'm biased. My son-in-law is a Yalie.
He loved it.
So did I.
I did a couple of seminars there.
If I had a choice of any school, I'd pick Yale.

BULLDOG, BULLDOG, BOW WOW WOW!
Boola, boola, Eli YALE!
:-)

But seriously folks...you'd love Boston and Cambridge.
And I could put you in touch with my daughter and son-in-law who don't live far away.
Fun couple.

“TEN THOUSAND MEN OF HARVARD”
(A. Putnam ’18)
Ten Thousand Men of Harvard want victory today
For they know that o’er old Eli
Fair Harvard holds sway.
So then we’ll conquer all old Eli’s men,
And when the game ends we’ll sing again:
Ten Thousand Men of Harvard gained vict’ry today.

36. I interviewed for Smith BITD (and was accepted)
Dress presentably and in a style like you would normally wear. Be yourself (I had to self-edit b/c I swear like a sailor, but you know what I mean) and don't be afraid to ask questions of the interviewer, too.

My Smith interview was at the most expensive house I have ever been in, antiques all over the place, zillion dollar everything, so on, so forth. Luckily I had had a little art history and could comment on and ask questions about some of the stuff in the house. The best part of my interview was about food. They'll also ask you things like what are you planning to write about in your essay, things that get at your value system, life experiences that have made a difference to you, that sort of thing. They're trying to suss out if you're "interesting," because they're trying to get an "interesting" mix of people.

The interview often carries the most weight at selective liberal arts colleges. The interviewer (usually an alum) can be the biggest deciding factor on who's admitted, and is usually someone who is passionate both about their alma mater and young people. So this is kind of like a review of your application where they can ask you questions about stuff.

I rather enjoyed my Smith interview (other than the fact that the interviewer talked like Julia Child and I had to try my damndest not to get the giggles). If you go with the mindset that you're going to meet someone interesting and have a good conversation with them, you'll do fine.

57. Whatever you do, don't call Harvard your "safe school" or "back up plan"
or compare it unfavorably to a more established university such as Oxford or Cambridge: despite its status as a relative newcomer in the community of universities, Harvard actually does show promise, and the general expectation is that it is likely one day to merit high rankings; until then, nothing is to be gained by tweaking their noses

The interviewer will, of course, want to know what interests you and how you spend your time. Be aware that the interviewer may be very nervous and insecure -- so you may not want to emphasize how much have you have learned by hanging out in a virtual pub with a bunch of nekked pevs who fondly remember, how the brilliant metamorphosis of our generation into hippies with fluorescent green hair who realized while under the influence of acid -- thank you, Harvard, for Timothy Leary! -- that the academic establishment was indistinguishable from the military-industrial complex's fascist insect hive, and who now amuse themselves with HTML tricks and campaigns to free ducks from duct tape and ... But I see that I digress, and now I can't remember what I was talking about

I'm sure you'll do fine

...when he asks you why Harvard, tell him that you heard there were, "lots of hot guys there, and that it was a big party school".

Then follow that up by rolling your eyes and saying, "D'uh!", like you can't believe he asked that question.

That should clinch it for you.
