Stern is relentlessly, relentlessly slamming Bush, his ads....

Playing Bush soundbites and his ads and then commenting. It's a bit scattered topically but he is covering lots of good stuff. Here are a few tidbits I heard just in the span of ten minutes....

Stern: "Bush admits he doesn't read the paper." "Cheney running the country". "Bush takes more vacations than any prez in history"
"Bush was doing beer bongs while Kerry was in Viet Nam." "Bush shuttled Bin Laden's family out of country".

Now Stern's doing a fake ad for Bush (voice over... over music) "Bush hasn't done coke or crashed his car drunk since he was forty.... vote for Bush." I have to stop... fingers getting tired.

He is just a slime monger that has realized that there are more important things than staring at lesbians making out in bikinis.

20. Nope. You're wrong.
I'll agree that Stern's attitude towards sexuality is, by and large, of adolescent-male calibre. (And he's 50 years old!). But there's far more to Stern's program than just that. From the beginning of his career, he has consistently tested the boundaries of free speech. I used to think Stern was a Lenny Bruce wanna-be, but without the intellect. Now I realize that, despite his grossness, he is very much a personification of the American Id, much as Bruce was. And Stern will be the first to admit that he's not an intellectual. Indeed, he tends to revel in his ignorance. This used to bug me. It no longer does, however. Because I, with the benefit of an Ivy-League education, grad school, and a successful career in journalism, consistently laugh at Stern's ability to call "bullshit" on the hypocricy of our age. That ain't intellect. That's common sense. And Stern's ego-deflating interviews with "stars" are alone worth the price of his being on the air.

In recent days, Stern's been going on and on about the fact that Clear Channel, the mega-corp which owns far too much of this nation's radio airwaves, has pulled him off their stations. I support him in these diatribes because he's right! Today, a caller into his show complained that Stern was sounding like Lenny Bruce at the end of his career, when he would do little more, in his comedy-club gigs, than read from transcripts of his court cases. Me, I get fired up listening to these vintage recordings of Bruce taking the system to task, for all the right reasons. Now, Stern's equally relevant rants may not be what the average Stern listener wants to hear---but Stern is correct in doing what he's doing. This is freedom of speech, baby. This is freedom.

I'm not paranoid by nature, but Stern's being pulled off the vital state of Florida radio stations in an election year---just a week or so after he began coming down hard on Bush---is not, perhaps, a coincidence? Christie Todd Whitman freely admits that it was Stern fans who helped her win her election in New Jersey. Might not the Repubs be scared by a power like that in a state like Florida?

3. I wonder if any of this will make it to his E! show on TV?
Probably not, sadly. I doubt he has much control over what gets on. Every time I've watched it, it's either a celebrity interview or naked women with blurry mommy-parts.

6. I doubt it, too.. Right now, Howard is riffing against * stream of...
consciousness. It's going to be along eight months. You can bet between him and Larry Flynt, they will do all they can to sink him.
If I were either of these two, I would avoid small planes and icy weather.

9. wow
i came to post basically the same thing. I usually cannot stand stern, can't handle the bitches and whore stuff, but he is pounding bush non-stop. Taking on the religious Reich head-on - going on about the risk of losing abortion rights and saying that gays do have the right to marry, which of course, we all know they do. It is a beautiful thing to hear. I can't believe it is coming from Stern and i can't believe the fcc is going to let It go too much longer.

10. He suggested Bush challenge Kerry
to a beer bong contest since he can't debate! "Bush could be anybody in a chugging contest!" LOL! It WAS a good show today, what little I heard of it.

15. Oh. My. God.
I thought this might be phase Howard was going through. If he continues with this line, it is a HUGE factor in the election. Even without the Clear Channel stations, Stern still has over 10 million listeners. He is enemy Bush cannot afford.

Stern has become less controversial over the years. His followers are ghettoized and everyone else just deals with his presence. The live-wire issues of ten years ago are snoozing. Now he's suddenly controversial again and a cause celebre for a part of the population.

Stern may indeed get fired. If he does, he will have hundreds of radio stations clamoring to put him on the air. And his anti-Bush rhetoric will only escalate.

19. I'm glad Stern is bashing bush*
but I hope we don't come to regret it......Howard's support could become a liability at some time....better to keep a respectful distance from him, don't embrace him.

Remember one of the sad truisms of politics is that you can choose your enemies but you can only wish you could choose your friends.

26. I heard that this morning. It was hilarious. And quite wonderful to hear.
His fake ads, over the music of Bush's 9/11 ad, were too freaking funny.

"My opponent is in to dangerous things like reading and thinking." It was some funny stuff. I love the the fact that someone on air has the guts to say it.
