Kitty name suggestions, please!
After 3 years, when my last baby died of old age and kidney failure, I'm finally taking the plunge and adopting another cat. The shelter named him Bobby (there's picture of him here: http://www.petadoption.cc/cats_adopt2.phtml) but Bobby ain't no kind of name for a cat, so I need to come up with something else.

He's really sweet and kind of a hard-luck dude--his paws are terribly chewed-looking from frostbite sometime during his career as a stray. I pick him up tomorrow, after they've tested him for heartworm and given him a bath.

Any ideas? The right name is almost as important as the right cat!

Thanks!!!

1. Congratulations!!
You're gonna have a new best buddy!

I've been trying to hard to get anybody to name anything - children, pets, turnpike restrooms - "Dookus"

It's a fine name!

10. Hmmm
Actually, I like the name Dookus for a Persian or a Siamese.

Kidding.

Er...ok...a name for your kitty...how about...crap...I'm all out of kitty names.

Nothing too topical though, or else the name will lose meaning.

7. I checked him out but not enough to see with picture.
It took me about a 2-3 weeks before I came up with a good name for my dog.

What your cat looks like to you and how it reacts might be important.

24. Yes, that's true.
Sometimes you need to let the cat decide on the name. So to speak. I just don't want to get used to calling him "Bobby." I don't know, it just seems like a dorky name to me. (For a cat, not a human!)

12. Speaking of Kitty names ........ I posted this on another board today.
Did I ever mention how my Mox got his name? He was a Christmas present. My sister Michelle got him in NJ when was about 7 weeks old. He was so small you could hold him in the palm of your hand. I set him on the floor for a minute & my other sister's German Shepherd immediately moved in to investigate. You should have seen this little guy attack. (It's a good thing Kayla (the dog) is so sweet.) My Mom said, "Look at him go!"

I said, "The little shit sure has moxie"

Hence the name. Moxie for his spitfire attitude, & blue for his beautiful eyes & coat tint.

Moxie-Blue

26. as you wish
although I find nicknames are insulting to proud animals, whoa er we to shorten their names to a juvenile form, simply to assert our dominance over them? All of my pets have had full names, and we used those, not the juvenile form in addressing them.

22. Get him home
And get to know him a bit. Then you'll come up with the right name.

Given his hard luck, Job might suit him.

Chances are , if he's anything like most of mine, the name will only matter to you, 'cause he'll only answer to it when he's good and damn ready.

28. Yup
I hear that . . .

Job! I kind of like it, but I shy away from the biblical or the Shakespearean. I once named a cat Hotspur, and after justifiable ridicule from my family, went in the opposite direction and changed it to "Stinky."

We had a stray cat who came by our house every night after dinner a few years back. We called him "Bob" - Bob Cat.

44. Spike is a good cat name.
My black and white Spike had a black streak down his white nose, and one black eye. He just looked like a tough guy.

Bobby, OTOH, looks like a sweetie. I'm another who has to live with a cat for a while until I learn what his or her name is.

Anyway, keep us posted, please.
