FaceBook etiquette?

Let's say you have a friend who was a good friend in high school (which was 19 years ago), you don't hate the person, but you have barely talked to them in 8 years or so. Let's add to the fact that they are part of a group called "Thankful for president George W. Bush" and other than the mutual "your kids are cute" thing you really have nothing in common.

Now, said person sends you all the random FaceBook junk on a daily basis including "be my top friend" (I doubt she means what my brain would even think it means :evilgrin:, but I digress). Can I hit that ignore button to all the random junk without her knowing it? I suppose the random cheers, snowballs, and puppies were fine (just figured she had more time on her hands then I did), but after that GWB thing, it somehow now makes me want to slowly puke every time I she kidnaps me with one of her snowballs or whatever the Hell it is. There is a history there and I don't really want to hurt her (I tried changing her mind years ago when I was a more moderate liberal and she was a more moderate conservative with no success), but FUCK, it's annoying.

3. I just cancelled my FaceBook account today

I kept having people that I haven't talked to in many years finding me there.
People from High School who didn't much talk to me then.I mean why the hell would I want to talk to them now?

10. Yes, I ignore all that crap. You can even turn off all those applications

under the Settings and then Privacy.

I have some old friends from high school who are wingnuts now, but I have them on Limited so they don't see most of what I do on Facebook anyway (they don't see my photos, status updates, friends, etc.)
