I had Calamari for the first time yesterday, finally
YUM! :9

As was the Linguine Alla Vongole with Red sauce, which I have leftovers of in the fridge. :9

But yeah, I really like the Calamari. Squid!

:)

3. Calamari is awesome - people who complain about it being rubbery have
never properly had it...

13. There's a Chinese restaurant here
That does a baby octopus in a spicy black bean sauce that just melts in your mouth.

5. I was nervous the first time I had calimari....I was quite pleased
the thing is, I've had it at a couple of places, but it just has to be cooked right. Some places can overcook it..and I think that's what can fuck up the experience.

7. John's Pizzeria, 44th St, NYC = Best Linguine alla Calamari EVER. Time after time.
And I've eaten calamari in MANY restaurants hither and thither.

8. 44th and what?
Because I had pizza at a John's Pizzeria when my SIL was at MSKCC and it was easily the best I've had.

Same place?

19. Yeah, there's a John's Pizzeria on 44th
Their other one is on Bleecker. Both places have the best pizza ever, but the one on Bleecker had a rat problem apparently, for awhile.

29. Yeah, I think so
I was only at that one once. I usually went to their other pizzeria on Bleecker, which is MUCH smaller.

I never woulda thunk it. *thud*

Glad you liked it, though. It's yummy stuff. Calimari steaks are really popular out here, and MAN are they good.

25. Here's why:
I've wanted to try it for a good while, but as I'd never had it, I didn't want to order it as a stand alone appetizer, in case I didn't like it.

I was at a large dinner yesterday at a nice Italian restaurant, where we got a lot of appetizer samplers, which had the calamari, clams casino, breaded and fried eggplant, mussels, and Italian sausage.

:9

12. You live in a heavily Italian town on the coast!
How could you have missed out on calamari!

It's great so long as it is cooked right. if it's prepared poorly, it's like chewing on a rubber band.

Two good places for squid not far from you: Thai Basil on Newbury St. and Piccola in Manchester, NH.

26. Then why is all of the pizza in this town Greek?
Except for the one place I can stand, Buccini's.

I have pizza deficiency in Qz. So much so that I've taken to just making them at home from scratch.

20. I tried it for the first time about 2 weeks ago myself
I was underwhelmed, the sauce was good so it was good the flesh was pretty taste nuetral but it wasn't chewy or anything like I always imagined it, in fact texturally it was very tender.

Then I tried squid as Sashimi last week and the same thing, pretty bland but nice and a good vehicle for Wasabi or soy sauce :)

24. What I heard growing up is that it tastes like chicken. Is that true?
My favorite radio talk show host used to advertise for a great oceanside restaurant and he would rave about the calimari.
