My cat has started sleeping under the covers in the bed.
First cat I ever had that does that. I always thought that was more of a dog thing. It's cold, though, and she's getting older. Anyone else have cats that do this?

1. Awww... None of my cats have ever done that, but that's so cute.
:)

I'd let my cats sleep under the covers but they've got no interest in being there. No matter how cold it is, they want to sleep on top of me.

13. It's super cute.
Until she gets up in the middle of the night and then wakes me up pawing me to be let back in! :D

2. My cat loves to be under the covers - usually when I'm awake, but
sometimes while we're all asleep. Typically, he waits until I'm sitting up (reading or using computer) then he crawls in under or along my legs. It's an excellent addition to the warmth factor!

3. All my cats have done that when it gets cold...
one races me into the bedroom.

(A cat's body temp is something like 103 degrees, so they're like little hot water bottles under the covers.)

4. My cat does...
although... I have a hole in my bed sheet, and she likes picking it at... Plus, she's batshit crazy.

5. Yeah, mine does that in cold weather.
I lie down, and within a minute, she's pawing at the sheet edge. I lift it up, she walks down and curls between my calves if I'm on my back, or in the space behind my knees if I'm on my side. I can't believe she doesn't get claustrophobia from it, but she keeps coming back.

6. Back in the day, when I was a child...
My parents' cat slept under the covers with them.

I think she did it her whole life, too...

:hi:

7. a friend's cat
used to live under the covers. She only came out to eat and go potty. You had to pet her through the covers.

10. My cat Sophie does it all the time!
In fact she loves to sleep on/next to my legs and knead them---I was just noticing all the little scratches I have on my legs from her kneading me...

11. It's pretty common
Our Wilma was wedged between us at night until we put a heating pad on low under her favorite blanket in the living room. Now she prefers to sleep there.

12. I've had some who did and some who didn't. My current kitty tried it once,
but she apparently didn't care much for it. She crawled under the covers, stayed for about 2 minutes, crawled back out and has never tried it again. Maybe my feet stink.

16. The funny thing is that this cat NEVER did this before,
although she has tried it several times, she never did it consistently. Now? She's under there every night. Must be getting older and colder. Her little ears certainly are chilly when she crawls under there!

17. Cali Cat does
She adopted me when she was 7, and she's always done that. She'll meow and nudge at the edge of the covers until you hold them up for her. She usually only does it after the dogs have settled for the night, because she sometimes gets walked on.

18. my cat will check it out, but flies out when the sheets come down
She loves to curl up next to my head, on top of the covers. Occasionally I'll lift the covers and she'll poke around underneath, but if I let the covers come down on top of her, she's outta there.

19. I have one long-haired cat that does that
I have to be careful when I sit on the bed, because it's hard to see the lump underneath a down comforter.

My other cat doesn't do it as much, and he's the short-haired one. Strange.

This is the DU member formerly known as CATS.

20. Our siamese actually did this
Our 2 now do not do it. I don't think it has to do with cold, cause he did it year round.

but only in the winter. Poor kittie has no idea she's about to be banned from the bedroom once the baby arrives.

23. none of my current cats do that but I have had a couple in the past that did
one of my late great kitties did enjoy supervising the sheet changing though. She loved to be made up in the bed, then ooze out of the covers.

30. there is no sleep aid like a purring cat
Every night I thank my lucky stars for my big orange tabby boy. For the first ten years or so of his life he was not a snuggler. He slept on the bed, but not close up. But he grew to be a cuddler. I savor every snug night, because I almost lost him just a couple of months ago.
