The number one song the day you were born:
and how it relates or doesn't relate to your current musical taste (or lack thereof)

here's an easy link to find the song:

http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm

for me, it's "Tears of A Clown" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles.

hey, that's not too bad. :fistbump:

18. Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 03:57 PM by Iggo
Remember how she said we would meet again
Some sunny day?
Vera! Vera! What has become of you?
Does anybody else in here feel the way I do?

...Pink Floyd.

Lordy I've been an old fart for a long, long time, but I'm just a kid at one of my hangouts in Slidell. I'm soon to turn 55 and I'm one of the youngest at the great lil bar I go to on occasion.

But as I entered my 20s I started to hear it more and more at various times. A version of it was used as the theme song for the sci-fi show "Cleopatra 2525" which was on in the late 90s.

73. That's the song. If I ever heard it, I don't remember.
HEARTACHES
Ted Weems
- words by John Klenner, music by Al Hoffman

Heartaches
Heartaches
My loving you meant only heartaches
Your kiss was such a sacred thing to me
I can't believe it's just a burning memory
Heartaches
Heartaches
What does it matter how my heart breaks?
I should be happy with someone new
But my heart aches for you

From: http://www.lyricstime.com/ted-weems-heartaches-lyrics.html

The "but my heart aches for you" sounds familiar, but that's probably in a thousand songs.

Another synchrony: You joined DU three days before I did.

Never heard the name Ted Weems before, but it must be said that that song had legs because I heard it a lot when I was a little kid. In fact I remember singing along with it. Of course I was with my parents listening to their Old Farts radio station, WTIC in Hartford, morning man Bob Steele.

Synchrony indeed.

*I* remember when the video premiered (it was on network TV, I think right after an episode of the Simpsons).

Anyone old enough to remember the video watched most of the video thinking, "hey this is okay I guess..." but then at the end of the video said :wtf: when he started grabbing his crotch and vandalizing the car.

That was the turning point in Michael Jackson becoming cuckoo.

and it is one of his songs that I "Don't" care for...

Nonetheless, it was numero uno on the day of my birth...

76. UK charts are different...
For me, the #1 song when I was born was David Essex - "Gonna make you a star".

You can find these here: http://www.ukpopcharts.co.uk/uk_number_1s.htm

In the US, it was "Whatever gets you thru the night" by John Lennon.

Mark.

110. Come on a my House by Rosemary Clooney.......(yow)
things improved though: A Hard Days Night on the day I became a teenager. Needless to say, the Beatles had a slightly greater effect on my musical tastes than Rosemary Clooney, although to be honest, I didn't "get" The Beatles right away; the Animals were my favorite British invasion group until 8 days a Week , when I decided the rest of the world was right and I'd been wrong. However Eric Burdon was and still is one of my biggest influences as far as my singing....
