Exact same bass/piano riff. Wonder if Jim's estate ever tried suing Big Bird's ass...

25. Agree 100%!
My class had it up for a vote to sing this or the second verse from Styx's "Come Sail Away" during our graduation.

Styx won.

I raised holy hell when the results were announced.
Styx's song was nothing but cliches.

The "class leaders" told me to shut the hell up.

I told them during that singing of the song, I will not sing.
And they could kiss my ass.

The minority who voted for Croce applauded my rant, embarrassing the hell out of the "class leaders."

During the singing of that stupid song, at graduation, a number of people noticed almost half of those in my class, (79 in it,) were dead silent.

21. classic lyrics for a job interview
from workin' @ the carwash blues

"Tried to find me an executive position
but no matter how smooth I talk
They wouldn't listen to the fact that I was a genius
the man said we got all that we can use"

22. Way too many favorites to pick just one
I never understood why so many of the hits were really just novelty songs, when the ballads were so good.

Hard Way Everytime
Recently
Next Time, This Time
Lover's Cross
Alabama Rain
Walkin' Back to Georgia
I Got a Name

One of my worst regrets is that I had a chance to see him in August 1973, in Austin, MN, not that far from where I lived. I passed, even though he was my favorite, and still is. He was gone in less than a month.

23. I love Jim Croce.
He died at the beginning of my senior year of high school. A bunch of us were going to go and see him. Very sad.

Favorites:

"Next Time, This Time"
"It Doesn't Have To Be That Way"
"Careful Man" (story of my life)
"Thursday"
"One Less Set Of Footsteps"

It's hard to pick just a few.

24. When my husband and I were dating and he had not yet
divorced his first wife, all the guys he worked with called him Bad Bad Leroy Brown - his last name was Brown. So whenever I hear that song I think of him and it brings tears to my eyes.

27. I've got a name--hasn't been played to death...yet
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singin' bird and the croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid

Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

Like the North wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the babies' cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I go there proud

Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

And I'm gonna go there free...
Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
And I know I can share it if you want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you

Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

32. Wait -- I'm not done yet.
Don't you know I had a dream last night
You were here with me
Lying by my side so soft and warm
And I dreamed that we were lovers
In the lemon-scented rain
But when I woke up
O I found that again,
I had been dreamin'
Dreamin' again.

--Jim Croce, "Dreamin' Again"

Paragon, your post here re-tracked me & saved my evening.

Thank you.
