Question re: new cell phone
Just got my first cell phone and someone told me to do a full charge, then leave it on till it runs dry - do this 3x's and the batteries will last longer.

When I activated my account they just said to charge the sucker for 4 hours.

Thanks guys :)

1. So what's the question?
If you are asking about battery charging, the advice to full charge/run it dry is correct. It's not a big deal mind you, but good advice nonetheless.

2. I recall reading something along those lines in the directions that came
with mine, but I don't remember the 3X part. I think it said to generally try to run the battery all the way down every time, and not to charge it when it is almost fully charged.

3. doesn't amtter as much as it used to
with newer batteries. About once every 50 charges (or every two months for me, I let it runall the way down, seems to work.

4. charge-drain-charge is old school
a throwback to days when everybody used NiCad batteries. It was good advice then, as NiCads had a memory effect that could prevent a full charge. Now-a-days, most rechargeables are Lithium Ion or NiMh and they don't have this memory effect. 'Nurther words, it doesn't do any good (or harm) to charge-drain-charge.

5. when i traded in my older phone for my newer one
i was told to fully charge it and then let it discharge completely the first time. that is supposed to increase the length of time the battery holds the charge. "they" said i didn't need to let it discharge compeletly again but i do every month or so.

6. Thank you all for your input.
I love all the new technology but, I sometimes long for the old hardwired phones - no batteries - no text msg. Hell, I remember not having call waiting, voice mail etc. How did I ever live!! ;)

7. The packaging said to recharge a few hours.
But when I called to initiate it, I was told that the batteries would last longer if it were charged for at least 12 hours. Nothing about letting batteries run dry.
