Good Thoughts

I need good thoughts for tomorrow. I go into the hospital to have 2 cancers removed from my face. I'm not afraid but a few good thoughts would help. I have one particular bad one on my nose. I told my surgeon I had always wanted a nose job, but not this way. He did say my nose would be shorter. I didn't think at the time to ask him if it would be shorter only on one side. I don't want to end up with a permanent sneer. On the other hand maybe I can really do a good Elvis lip exercise. If he has to do a skin graft he will use part of my ear. That is good news because I was afraid he would use skin from my wrinkled old fanny. Just thought I would ask for some mental hugs and jokes to take with me. I'll play my newest Hall and Oates CD on the way to psych myself.

I hope it all turns out well even though it's no skin off my nose. Good thing he's not using fanny skin. You'd have to have your nose covered all the time for decency's sake.

7. Of course, good luck. Treatment and surgery has advanced so much

in the last few years that they can do wonderful things now, both in getting the cancer and taking care of the cosmetic part.

A fellow I know had this done as emergency surgery. His nose was rebuilt with skin from elsewhere and nobody can tell the difference at all.

11. Please know that I will be thinking of you when you go under

(which I think is the most scary part) and when you wake up (which is initially pleasant). I have had four surgeries, two horrifically scary and the other two, scary at first, which worked out well. Know that you have support here, especially from those here that have shared your experience. Your good music will certainly help you. During my last surgery, which was most successful, these very kind people put me under to the tune of Fleetwood Mac's ``Rhiannon.''
