"Assembled in Mexico of United States"
That's what the label said on a shirt I saw today.

Is this a new country? Or is it just the part of Mexico that's been purchased by US corporations?

1. The official name of Mexico *is* the United States of Mexico...no lie.
They have 32 states.

So someone just translated poorly.

6. I've seen "United States of Mexico" before...
This makes me wonder where the labels were manufactured.

7. Brazil was like that too.
República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil. I kid you not.

Now it's República Federativa do Brasil (it baffles me why couldn't they just say "federal" instead of "federative")

2. Official name of Mexico
Translated into English is "United Mexican States" or "United States of Mexico." I suspect your shirt label is a garbelled translation.

3. Probably more to that label...
I've seen "Made in Mexico of United States materials" before.

4. possible
although those are generally phrased slightly differently like, "assembled in Mexico with parts made in the United States."

5. Whenever I read "assembled in ***"
I suddenly have visions of sweat shop workers picking the cotton, dying, weaving, and cutting the cloth before it's sent to *** where someone whose job lies somewhere between "sweatshop" and "substandard non-union position" runs a sewing machine.
