2. I heard there's only one fruitcake in the world
and people just keep giving it away to someone else every holiday season.:) If you actually eat it, the tradition will be destroyed.

He's too good a humorist to hold a mother-in-law/airline food level quip against him :) Fruitcake is great!

homemade fruitcake! I used to have a relative who would make it every holiday season, but the well dried up and i haven't had any in years.

Is there a good commercial source of the real stuff?

edited for spelling....

16. Fruitcake is the easiest thing in the world to make, but the good ingred
ients are expensive. The oldsters used to crack pecans for a month in order to do the Thanksgiving and Christmas sweets. Now, just buy a couple of pounds of very fresh crop pecans when they are picked in the Fall, and pm me and I will send you Aunt Myrtle's recipe which is a big swoon. I even put dates, apricots, raisins and currants in instead of the dried up citronella and garish cherries. Put a few cherries just for color. The oldsters didn't like to make fruitcake because of the effort of nut-cracking and expensive fruit. Put about 7 dollars into ingredients and you will have a wonderful snack.

6. I like expensive fruitcake
I have a recipe that can run me $50 for 2 loaves.

OTOH Mom likes cheap fruitcake, but only a little tiny serving.

There was an old song titled "867-5309". Isn't that a coincidence?! :silly:

14. Ditto for 606-0842!
:silly:

The 867-5309 is a bit better though, and I suspect Tommy T had listened to 606-0842 and came up with 867-5309 because of it...

:D

10. There was a Truman Capote story
about a boy who lived with his wild and crazy aunt who was famous for her brandy-doused fruitcakes. I often think of that story around the holidays...over a nice slice of fruitcake, of course. :-)
