1. Canadian Universities
University of Toronto (my future Alma Mater), McGill or University of British Columbia. They don't give scholarships to Americans but they are a great education for way less money than you would pay at an equivalent university in the US.

12. If the draft kicks in, I might come back and enlist.
I don't want anyone to impugn my patriotism later. Besides, I'll probably join the military later anyway.

3. If you have some idea of your major...
try looking into the professional organizations. For example if you want to be an accountant, go to the AICPA professional site and look for scholarship programs.

Also look in your community for local scholarships. Example: American Legion, Rotary, Lion's Clubs etc....the scholarships are usually small but every little bit helps...they also allow you to apply for and receive other scholarships.

Also, get in touch with the financial aides department of the college(s) you are considering. Ask them what is available. It works pretty well actually.

Yes, we've been there, done that....

9. They're not due but the earlier you get it in the better
Some scholarships/aid is limited and is awarded as FAFSA results are received. Schools usually start sending out financial aid award letters in April. Have daughter in college so I am an expert on the FAFSA!

13. Try www.fastweb.com
You just submit info, like major and stuff you've done, and they send you emails about scholarships that match your specifications. I used it, and I they sent me alot of good offers.
