It was 45 degrees here today. FORTY-FUCKING-FIVE FUCKING DEGREES!!!
Let me explain for you warm-weather dwellers how momentous this is.

* That is 40 degrees warmer than it was 48 hours ago, and the first time it's been in the 40s since November.

* For the first time in two months, I can actually see the sidewalk in front of my house-- there's not a 1" layer of ice on it.

* I could leave the house wearing only a sweatshirt and t-shirt. No big winter jacket, no hat, no gloves.

* For the first time since November, I didn't have to warm up the car for ten minutes.

* I could spend time on my south-facing 3-season porch, in the sunshine, without freezing my dick off while doing so.

DO YOU REALIZE HOW HUGH THIS IS?!?!? I AM SERIES!!!!1111oneoneone!!111

3. What, and leave the well-paying job, family, and nice house behind
to live in a trailer court and work as a greeter at Wal-Mart? Where do I sign?

4. It's nice, isn't it?
Did you get the sunshine, too? It's so strange to have warm sunshine in January. Usually, when it's sunny in January, its subzero outside.

It's supposed to be around 30 here tomorrow... maybe you'll get up above 40, if this weather is headed east? :hi:

10. I was kinda freaked when I went out on the porch
and I didn't need to turn on the space heater before I rode my bike. I even had my sunglasses on, it was so bright. And I worked up a real sweat, not just the half-assed sweat you get when it's freezing or colder.

I hope we get more tomorrow. :D

11. ...and that's why my dad fled MN for AZ 33 years ago.
Of course, the first winter he was down there, it got below freezing and he ended up with a thin layer of ice on his swimming pool. :dunce:

15. About 2 yrs ago we had a few nights below freezing.
Damaged a lot of plants here but no icy pools... thank gawd.

We've been above normal with our temps this winter. Our citrus trees are starting to put out new growth and it looks like they'll bloom early this year. Usually the blossoms don't appear til late March... ohhh do they ever smell good. It's worth living here just for the smell of orange flowers in the spring.

One night last week it got down to -32. Whewie!

13. Damn, that's cold!
I love living in the upper midwest, but the winters are so brutal some years. The last few have been hellacious, it seems.

Maybe you guys will hit 50 tomorrow?

17. 65? Why, that's mid-April weather
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 07:49 PM by no name no slogan
Which usually starts a week after the Boy's State Hockey Tournament, which is also the time we get our Spring Blizzard.

19. By mid-April it'll be in the eighties here.
It normally stops raining in March, but we're having a dry year, so we may not even get another storm.

18. January thaws are awesome
They usually come right about the time you start getting sick of winter.

For some reason, we always get them during the St Paul Winter Carnival, which is the big event of the winter around these parts. This is usually bad for the ice sculptures.

23. Warmth and sunlight to do weird things to us MNans in mid-winter
People become civil, and friendly, and start coming out of their sealed-up houses. It becomes almost nice to live here again.

But we'll probably be below zero again soon, and get another couple feet of snow, and go back to being our normal passive-aggressive a-hole selves.

27. We get the opposite here when it gets hot.
People loose their temper really fast in summer time.

Now when fall comes and it cools down people get back to normal.

We have a cool front coming again, next week will be a little cooler.

I'm in Detroit; is it coming MY way? I'd be freaking ecstatic if so, looking at the 1" of snow/ice blend I've been blooming on the sidewalk. :-)
