Microsoft Songsmith: Music Maker or Genius Killer?
Those evil bastids at Redmond have released intelligent music software that creates instrumental accompaniment from vocal input. In other words, you sing and Songsmith adds the band.

Devilish YouTubers have stripped classic vocal performances from years past and fed them into the MS application. The results are recordings frighteningly different from their original instrumental arrangement.

I present to you - David Lee Roth/Van Halen's Runnin' with the Devil like you've never, I mean never, heard it before:

More songs that have mean Songsmithed:

Sting/The Police Roxanne: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypycpKQxXR0
Thom Yorke/Radiohead Creep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM1GUk1SBmY
Liam Gallagher/Oasis Wonderwall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1e_h1OJfS4

I've got blisters on me ears!

1. Sucky-ass piece of shit at worst, cute novelty toy at best
The best one so far is Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" does as a polka tune.

6. I'd like to lodge a complaint
Threads like this should come with complimentary Depends right at the beginning. White Wedding as a hoedown nearly made me wet myself.

This is like the high-tech version of those creepy organ stores at the mall, so bonus if it would keep this shit in the privacy of people's homes, where it belongs.

7. It probably has lots of bugs; you tell them what they are and they will say
they will be fixed in the next version. (not service pack)

As for the next version, if I have to wait 18 months for one simple sodding bug to get fixed, I'll regret the day I took a chance on their software.

8. It seems like a calculator.
It works with the math of music, but it cannot create or anything.

10. If there is an upside...
it actually improves Rush's Tom Sawyer by reinterpreting it as 1980's Aha!-style New Wave. I never realized that there was much worse than Aha!, but there you have it. This isn't terrible, it's a tool for improving music by tools.

13. Why hasn't anyone tried running a Nickelback song through this?
There's no way it could get worse, and every chance it could improve.
