I feel an obligation to America, but my health may prevent...
...me from doing too much.

My counselor thinks I'm making myself sick by thinking too much about how * has fucked up our country and our world. But at the same time, I feel that if I don't do my part, I won't have a world to rejoin if/when I get better.

My health really is fucked, you guys. I shouldn't be hanging around here, seething with anger, but I can't help it. I feel like Strauch* is a very personal enemy, out to destroy everything I love: my freedom to not believe in god, my beautiful sea full of dolphins and whales, my beautiful forest full of wildlife...sigh.

I think it may be time to turn away for awhile...why can't I make myself?

1. Ladyhawk, you are not alone.
There's no real solace in this fact, other than helping you to understand that what you are feeling is not unusual. My gues is that many, many people at DU (perhaps thousands? perhaps more?) feel as you do.

As for me, I am trying to look at things one step at a time rather than cumulutively. There is an election this year. Put your hope in that and find something to do each day (or week, if you need) that will support your view of our country. Edification of yourself has been helpful up until this year. Now, we must educate the masses...a job relinquished by our media, subsequently leaving it up to the entrepreneur to do the job.

May I suggest advocating letter-writing campaigns to Congress and the media, as well as voter registration organizations. We are going to need every single vote that we can get. If we work hard, I'm convinced we have a good chance of winning.

Oh, and, don't forget to take your *** (fill in with prescription drug of choice).

Chin up, ladyhawk. We have a future generation to protect. This is the job that has fallen unwittingly upon us, and we must not fail!

:)

Thanks for posting!

Keo

2. I know the feeling...
I'd love to be able to turn off my political mind for a couple months... but it's just about impossible, I think, short of killing my television, unplugging the computer, and killing the radio and newspaper and magazines that surround me.

3. Nothing new here, lots of us have discussed our increased
frustration and depression over the past several years here.
I am on medication again for the first time in over 10 years. I am doing better this year than I was last year, but only becasue I was lucky in that someone I love pointed to all the signs I was having and for once in my life, I listened.

6. Good for you!
I wish anti-depressants worked for me! I may have a date with the ECT machine in the near future. Unfortunately, shock treatments leave me with amnesia. I may have to write myself a note about my political awakening:

Dear Laura,

You are no longer a Republican. You can't stand George W. Bush. He is a fucking liar and wants to turn America into a fascist nation. You are very, very pissed off about this. Vote Kerry and the Dem Party line.

Love,

Laura

4. dear LadyHawk
hang in there. how our world does need those who care like you do! more than ever!

times i despair, i do kind of the opposite - i go on news fast, all but here. i come ONLY here for info, where i may be upset, but can trust the perspective; and where i know others really do get it. i find it helps.

maybe come even just to write your heart and receive support, as you have here.

hold on, and feel held

please keep on your compassionate way

peace!

5. Hang in there, Ladyhawk...
...this is the most important thing to remember: this too shall pass. The American people are not, by nature, small minded, selfish, mean-spirited, or fascist. We are being manipulated by a well-financed collection of corporatists and religious fanatics who are totally out of control. They are f*cking up the country so fast and so badly that eventually the American people are going to catch on and, in an orgy of anger, take back our country. It may have already started. It's just a matter of time. Keep the faith!!!!!
