1. Well, I was a VH fan back in high school, but that was 18 years ago
I was a big fan of the original, David Lee Roth version of Van Halen. Had all the posters on my wall, pissed my parents off something terrible.

These days, I'm a little more into Thelonious Monk and Steely Dan and Shostakovich and Ani DiFranco. But it's fun to drag out the old Van Halen once in a blue moon and give it a listen.

Are they still making albums? Last I heard, they had the guy from Extreme as their lead singer. Still around? Same lineup?

2. only through "Fair Warning"
I was 11 when the debut came out, and I could crank a tennis racket with the best of them. Eddie was innovative and had a great tone. I consider him an important early influence.

After "Fair Warning", I do like "Diver Down" and "1984", but only about half as much. I can't stand the power pop of Hagar or Cherone. They might as well be Journey with a good guitarist. Eddie quit caring long ago.

I stick to the DLR era, especially the debut and "Fair Warning".

6. Absolutely.
The Dave stuff was great, and the Sammy stuff even better. I was a Hagar fan before he joined VH, so that pairing was sent from heaven as far as I was concerned.

7. joe dirt quote..."Van Halen...NOT van-Hagar!!!!...."
hard choice for favorite album...probably "fair warning" or "women and children first"...hell, i even liked diver down. i can also say i believe i saw the last van halen concert with roth as frontman...3rd show in reunion arena in dallas(they sold out 2 shows and added the 3rd)in the summer of 85.......ahhhh...the memories..

i hear the new van halen cd will have roth as the singer again...one can only wish....roth was the heart and soul of that group...after he left they were never the same...

10. Only with DLR. I love their first album.
They rocked back then. I thought they were too tame with Sammy; I liked Sammy's stuff from before he joined VH, but I didn't care for him with the band. I love "Ice Cream Man" on the first album.
