Would it be possible to build a snow house around an actual house?
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 01:49 PM by LaraMN
My kids have this snow block maker, and I think I could build walls of snow bricks around my entire house.
I'm not doing it, I just bet I could. Would it cave in my actual walls? The snow walls would just melt from the heat of the house's exterior, wouldn't they?

1. Yes.
The heat loss from your house would melt a little bit of the snow that touches the siding. A small gap would form, then some kind of stability would be reached. You would lower your heating bills. Even more so if you blocked the windows as well as the walls.

Built the walls so they taper as they get higher, for stability. Maybe 4 feet thick at the bottom and tapering to a foot thick at the top.

And of course, we'll need photographic evidence.

7. Whatever! The "real-feel" on accuweather says -7.
I'm not going outside until it hits double-digits.

3. the question should be why would you want that to happen
I spose there could be insulation properties like an igloo.
I would hope you have a very small house because even for a moblie home, that is a whole lot of snow bricks. And if you have enough snow for that many bricks--then your winter is even more sucky than mine is.

8. It's too cold, the snow's not sticky enough
Wait until this weekend when it warms up, and the snow's not so icy. You'll have better luck.

11. I had a friend from Erie PA
who told me that she used to make them in those old gallon milk cartons by packing them full of snow and then pourin water over them to refreeze the snow.
