3. That's about what it would cost here to get something decent
a little less, maybe 40% but I don't think I could get anything bigger than a studio for 25%

I actually live in a studio that's tiny, even by NYC standards.

6. A small city between Madison and Milwaukee, WI
I'd be cheaper to live in one of the outlying towns but then I would have to commute farther to work plus the kids go to school here and all their friends are here. Either I spend half my day in the car or pay a lot more in rent :(
