Good morning Lounge
How are you today?

Yesterday evening my mom called me on my cell and told me something is wrong with my home phone. Great. It is dead. No idea if it has to do with my new W-LAN. Called the hotline of my phone company but so far it is still dead as dead can be x( Can't do anything now, I have to call them again when I get home tonight.

And chknltl .... thanks for your pm.

:hi: :loveya:

I'm doing fine. Busy at work, enjoying my new place ... I start to feel at home there. :)

Starting to think about what to serve on a buffet on my b.day/housewarming party. Any ideas? :D

5. Can you get some of those little baby quiches?
They're good, they're easy to heat up, and most people seem to love 'em.

Oh, btw, I stole your beautiful pic of the rose for my computer desktop. Hope that's okay. If it's not, I'll change it, but it's such a stunning pic, I couldn't resist.

also thinking about a cheese platter.

No, I don't mind at all. My co-worker has the same pic as her desktop pic :)

Did you see? Robeson is online too and posting in my thread

8. We usually do a mix of pre-made and homemade for buffets.
I do think a cheese platter would be good.

Also, a fruit/veggie platter (or separate ones for the fruits and veggies). I love to arrange them; want me to come over and help you? :)

How about those little meatballs?

Crackers, breads, and meats are also good, as people can make their own little sandwiches, unless you wanted all hot dishes.

And yes, I did see that the wonderful Robeson was posting here. Think I'll pop over and say hi.

Personally, I can't eat a lot of the butternut squash soup, but lots of people like it.

The pumpkin soup is good!

Nice and thick, and warm!

34. Same here.
We get our rice from MrSG's relatives; they are Chippewa and go out and harvest their own rice.

But a few times, he's "popped" the rice, and it's a rather tasty snack.

I talk on the phone far too much. I've had to cut down, because I spent way too much money on my phone last month. I'm thinking of getting a wifi skype phone or something. I sometimes use skype to call phones anyway (it's cheap), but I hate using the computer like a speaker phone.

I have a flat rate for phonecalls within Germany but also an extra option flatrate USA (and some other countries). That is perfect for me.

51. mostly to call back to the US
I like to talk to my brother, but it's insanely expensive for him to call me, and quite expensive for me to call him.... I also like to be a good son and call my parents sometimes, and I have a lot of friends in the US that I like to keep in touch with - sometimes calling is just easier than sending an email or something, especially for my parents, who are horrible with email.

have you checked the phone companies in the UK to see if they offer reasonable rates? I pay like 15 Euro extra each month for the flatrate.

66. I've looked at various things
What I actually have seems like a horrible idea, but I think is good for the most part. I just have a pay-as-you-go cell phone, which would usually be expensive, but in my case seems worthwhile. It means that I'm not paying a monthly fee for the times when I'm out of the country (at least two months a year), or at times when I'm just so busy that I can't/don't use the phone much. Having a landline seems like a good thing, because they have those kind of deals that you describe, but many of them only cover calls to land-line phones, and almost everyone that I call only has a cell phone.

I wonder if that had anything to do with the bad connection we were having.

Going to disappear for a bit and make sure I'm ahead of my men.

60. Morning MissH!
Good lord, I'm running late again. Don't know what's with me.

Btw - your pic is beautiful. A welcome sight on this cold, cold morning.

Party food ideas? You'd have a million for me, but my brain is just waking up, but one good and easy thing is . . . homemade bread (or a nice bread from the bakery) goat cheese, topped with caviar. I usually have bread sliced on a platter with the goat cheese and caviar in their own serving dishes and let guests make the concoction themselves.

Think I'll be taking breakfast to work again. But I did that yesterday morning and didn't have time to eat it. Oh well . . .

 :hi: :loveya:

If you can think of some more ideas let me know later on :D

64. You're keeping me from
showering and getting ready for work. Here's a great recipe, easy, and everyone loves it. I use ground turkey - you know the health issue (never mind the 1/2 cup of butter ). And the 6 servings? I think I'd up that count. Makes a lot of meatballs. I don't have time to do the conversion thing.

Buffalo Chicken Meatballs
2 pounds ground chicken or turkey
1½ cups bread crumbs
2 eggs, whisked
¼ cup milk
¼ cup parsley
1/3 cup Romano cheese
salt to taste
pepper to taste
Hot-sauce dressing:
½ cup hot sauce (your choice)
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
½ cup melted butter
salt to taste
pepper to taste
• In a bowl, mix together ground chicken, bread crumbs, egg, milk, parsley, cheese and seasoning. Form into small balls. Put balls on a sheet pan in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Once done, toss with hot-sauce dressing and serve. Garnish with celery and your choice of either bleu cheese or ranch dressing. Makes about 6 servings.

69. They are yummy and
always a big hit. Additionally, you can make them the day before, and just warm up in a nice glass casserole dish, which you can use as your serving dish too.

OMG! I'm always up for talking food.

But you know a good source is the cooking and baking group. Here's a link on appetizers: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=236x54034

73. Good Afternoon, MissH!
That sucks about your phone! What a hassle.

I have to go home at noon today so that I can wait around for the gas and electric service person to come and replace the battery in my meter. It didn't matter how much I told them that I work 10 minutes from my house, they still wouldn't agree to call me when they are on their way, so I could just meet them. x(

but we had a full section of women--5 showed! And it was cold and windy, about 5C at start time. :woohoo:

We may have lost one to injury, she said that she felt a pop in her calf. She either tore the muscle or broke the tendon. Either way, it's a long-term injury, 4 wks or more. :(

BTW, we lost 6-0

a good training season, since we lost all of our games. I barely got any shots on goal, last good one was last night. Should have run more with the ball. I'll have to train more as a striker and become a converted defender. The next season starts in about 2-3 wks.

And hi all! :hi:
I'm one of the Lounge mods, so I thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I come from Norway, and I've been hanging out at the DU since after election 2004, mostly reading political stuff. But not always, so if I've offended anyone during the last four years, I apologize ;-) Good of you Americans to allow people from Europe to participate in debate, I'd say.

I'm a rule book john, so I quote the rules :P

Yeah, good to see you all.
