Most inane show on TV
The learning channel's Jon + Kate + 8. Hands down. Not a single word of any interest or import ever passes through those two exhausted persons' lips. Why would anyone think a family with sextuplets and twins would be implicitly interesting enough to sustain a television series, especially when the parents have such an uninteresting approach to life? I don't get it.

8. I doubt it.
The premise seemed to be that a bunch of random people had to live together in a confined area till there was one winner left. The area looked like it had been scavenged from the leftovers of several grade "b" movies.

I saw this on the BBC several times over a few nights that I was there. It was ALL watching people eat, and do very little talking, and do NOTHING at all for 20, 30, 40 minutes! It was really the worst thing I have ever seen on t.v., and there was no other station to turn to...

13. Most reality shows.
Especially those in one of these catagories:

1. Reality shows about spoiled, obnoxious rich people who shouldn't be considered celebrities but do for the sole reason that they are on reality shows

2. Realities shows about washed up has-beens/never weres "celebrities"

3. Competition reality shows that involve no actual talent.

But there is a subset of this genre that accomplishes something unexpected -- using the camera to humanize rather than to mock. The cable network TLC specializes in what it calls the "docu-series," which places a camera in a home and rolls without intervention. Millions of Americans have gotten to know the impressively regimented Duggars, with 18 children and counting; the Roloffs, a family composed of both little and average-sized people; and, above all, Jon and Kate Gosselin, raising twins and sextuplets of monumental cuteness.

"Monumental cuteness"? Excuse me for a moment...

All I do is mock those people for their profound unexceptionalism. These people are professional parents of twins and sextuplets. I don't see evidence of any other interests or passions. I actually don't see any passion at all.

41. Not just being boring, but by being hypocritical in the Gosselin's case
They are the typical "do what I say, but not as I do" type of Christian. They have cut off their children's access to relatives and instead allow their children to grow up in a fish bowl. They are living off the backs of their kids and robbing them of a decent private life. Not only that, the parents travel to churches, for speaking engagements and accept "love offerings" from the church goers. These people are the scum of the earth and TLC is using the kids to line their pocket books as well.

30. I think the contestants must take some sort of a
test that assesses how greedy and how stupid they are, and only those scoring highest are selected. Inevitably some idiot who has three low amounts and one high amount and no understanding at all of odds will turn down a significant offer, pick off the high amount, and then go home with a hundred bucks or less. It's pathetic.

28. Jon looks like someone who needs a long nap
We live in a society today in which 1-3 kids are the norm. I think that people are naturally curious about others who are totally dissimilar to themselves; hence the popularity of Jon +Kate+ 8 .

My mother had six children (all singletons) within a 7 1/2 year span. (Not to mention an often absent husband) I am amazed that she didn't turn out to be an Andrea Yates. Lord knows, we probbaly deserved it at times.

When I watch JK8, a lot of what goes on there takes me back.

29. There's an anti Jon and Kate website called
Gosselinswithoutpity.com. The posters there are none too kind to those two and have them pegged as a couple of scammers who have quit their day jobs and mercilessly exploit their kids while collecting every sort of freebie imaginable.

They've recently moved into a million dollar palatial home and still have the nerve to make speaking appearances at churches where they pass the hat looking for "love offerings."

For the sake of the kids I hope viewers catch on and turn them off. They need to get their children off tv before they have to sell the house to pay for all the therapy those kids are going to need down the road.

33. I honestly don't understand the appeal of the show.
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 12:11 PM by BurtWorm
At all. The most entertaining thing about it for me is counting the number of inanities, vapidities and inspidities coming out of the parents' mouth. Virtually all they ever say is inane, vapid or insipid. And they always look bored and exhausted while they're saying it, sinking into their couch just letting the vacant observations about the kids' clothes and meals and naps and arguments fall out of their mouths. Being a parent of 8 may not be easy--unless you always have a TV crew around to do some heavy-lifting for you. But being the stars of that show looks like a big fat piece of cake.

PS: It doesn't surprise me that there's backlash against them.

37. They have discovered their own personal gravy train, that's
for sure. Too bad it's at the expense of their children's privacy. Those kids have been filmed on the toilet and in the bathtub. When the sextuplets were still in diapers one of the little girls had a case of diarrhea and created quite a mess. Kate actually held up her backside to the camera. Can you imagine the poor kid having to live that down when she gets older?

There are lots of unsavory ways to make a buck, but selling out your kids has to be one of the worst.

And you are right. There is nothing interesting about Jon and Kate. They are a couple of self-absorbed, greedy slackers who grabbed the brass ring when it came their way and are squeezing the crap out of it.

36. They act like no one has EVER experienced parenthoood before.
And I happened to catch the episode where they were riding in the mini-train, both parents in the front, with their backs to the kids. WTF???? Then there was the big train ride where the car apparently had no windows, and one of the little darlins was hanging half out. "Get back in here!" Mommy cries, but does nothing to put his little butt firmly back in the seat.

They are some of the worst examples of parenting I've seen glorified in awhile.

I haven't the stomach to watch the Duggar spectacle, though, so I may be speaking too soon.

They say the woman is the worlds most obnoxious idiot you'll ever meet. She thinks she's some sort of big shot celebrity that everyone should bow down too and from what I have read she's really ignorant to her own husband.

Why we glorify these idiots is beyond me.

What I read is the doctors knew that the ovaries had excessive number of follicles stimulated and they should have skipped trying to get pregnant that month but these people ignored the advice of the doctors.

And the rest of us have to suffer.
