but I'm not sure I fit it .... exactly.
Here's the Deal: I've been in Technical Writing off and on since 1992. It's a pretty good job. But the fact is it has never been a stable career for me (in fact, I've lost money doing it) and I now see it as frankly going the way of the Do Do. Offshoring, etc... (Sorry to my fellow TWers who read this. )
Now I consider myself basically just a writer. I can write anything. Fiction. Nonfiction. Technical manuals. It's all just words to me.
I've given a lot of thought to writing about the new "green economy." Alt energies, home improvements, and so on. I'm also someone who wants to do something that adds meaning to my life, not just a pay check. Paychecks are necessary of course, but I've never been completely satisfied with just that.
Now the position I see is for more of a community organizer, spokesperson for getting green technologies into peoples' homes here in town. This person would also be making presentations and so forth to the town council and committees, presumably with his/her own materials.
So one half of the job is community stuff, the other half more lobbyist/cheerleader, all the while writing about all of it.
I have the writing part down. I can even do some activities and teacher-y stuff for community involvement.
Oh and did I mention it's only budgeted through June? Then it's up for renewal along with the rest of the budget. :P
To sum up. It seems like something I could really get my teeth into, moreso than any job I've had. But I'm unsure that they would even consider me because on the surface. I don't seem to be what they say they are looking for.
And I'm unsure why I wrote this. Just thinking out loud I suppose. Thanks for reading.
