2. Including a hyper-active one like

Yes, it would be cool, with a certain amount of risk involved ;)

3. A friend of mne grew his facial hair like Jafar (from the Disney movie) once.
Also, the Popeye take on Aladdin was a childhood favourite of mine.

the Bugs Bunny cartoon. The original story! All of it.

Can't find a link for the initial scene - that's my favorite. Here's the genie scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grVzHu-_LcU I love the verbal schtick!

Prince Ali is a lot of fun, too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltcMueAFEl0&NR=1 to gawk, and grovel and stare, at Prince Ali....

10. The original tale from ""1001 Nights" was set in China, not Arabia.
I guess when you live in Arabia and you need a setting for your story that is far-off, exotic and mysterious, you don't choose the Arab world.

Any way you shake it, though, the name "Al'-Adin" doesn't sound very Chinese...

11. Yeah, I remember that much about the original tale.
Although most of the rest of the stories about djinn were set in Arabia and the surrounding lands. There's a great book (out of print, tho) called Arab Folk Tales by Inea Bushnaq. You get a better idea of the thinking behind many of those older tales and how they could still make things exotic in their own "backyard" :)
