I really wish my neighbor's Lab would stop dropping land mines in my front yard.
We have a leash law, and my four dogs are safely fenced in. But not the guy across the street. Noooooooooooooo. He has a big friendly black Lab who drops tree-limb-sized turds in my front yard. I have no beef with the dog, it's his owner that bothers me. I don't want to have the dog picked up by Animal Control, but I do want the clown to keep him contained.

What to do?

2. Have a talk with the guy.
There has been one or two times when I was walking my dog when they relieved themselves in antother yard. I carry something with me now to clean it up. But I would have totally understood if someone said something to me. You can be kind about it. If he refuses, then it is WAR!! :P

6. This guy is a real winner.
When everyone's power was out for a week after Katrina, Neighbor had a big construction generator in his driveway, running night and day. He could probably have powered the whole street with it, but did he offer anyone a spare plug? Noooooooo.

I wanted to shoot that damn generator.

10. Yeah! That's why I was tempted to shoot it.
With no electricity, everything was dead silent in the neighborhood, except for this noisy humongous gas-powered generator (it was so big it sat on a big trailer in his driveway). And it was running at midnight. Hell, all night long.

AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!! I was sorely tempted ...

13. That sound has become the common "post hurricane" noise....
Damn near everybody on my street had one running when Gustav came through. And that was when gas was $4 per gallon.

3. You'd love my backyard.
The other three guys in my building have 4 dogs, all medium-sized.
And there's lotsa poop both on top of the snow and under it.

5. Don't you just love seeing a big brown turd on top of the snow?
Kinda Currier-and-Ives-ish.

4. Talk to the neighbor. Document your conversation.
If this is a no-go for whatever reason, send him a letter. Keep a copy. If he still won't come around, call Animal Control to report HIM, not his dog. In most places, they'll visit and make an effort to persuade the offender to comply with the law before they take more concrete action. Good luck!

9. I'd say a polite but firm talk first....
If that doesn't work, scoop the turds and put them somplace VERY inconvenient for him. A few suggestions: doormat, interior of car (if it's unlocked), packed into the gas tank recess of his car (very effective! Used this one before), thrown into his swimming pool (if applicable), dropped off in a bag at a local church parking lot (preferably his church) with a few pieces of his discarded junk mail to seed the investigation... The possibilities are endless....

And if that doesn't work. Call animal control on the pooch.

11. I like it!!
Animal Control wouldn't hurt the dog, of course, but it would cost Generator Man a couple of hundred bucks or so to get him out of the Joint!

12. Unless he's too cheap to get the dog out of the pound.....
It happens. Cheaper to get a new dog than pay the fines.
