I had a problem with my debit/credit card.

They're sending me a new one and deleting my old account information because Visa thinks my card might have been compromised.
Does anybody have any idea why something like this could have happened? Should I be worried? I'm going to talk to the bank tomorrow and get more information.

1. Happens all the time.

Mine was replaced last year, a store that I went to (Marshalls) had some kind of security breach and all their customers' banks were notified. My sister's was replaced a few days ago, I'm not sure what happened there.

2. I got a similar letter from my bank in the last week

saying that my mastercard had possibly been compromised. I would keep an eye on whatever is hitting your account, but it's probably not a big deal.

5. Mine was "skimmed" at a legitimate business.

Somehow a traveling band of Romanians managed to get an insider in. The cops told the bank to suspend my card,no one told me until I tried to use it.
This bunch hits and moves on quickly.

6. How were you alerted to this?

Just asking, because there's a new phone scam where you'll get a recording asking you to call a customer service number (which isn't associated with the bank), and when you call, it immediately asks for your 16-digit card number.

Me<---paranoid and doesn't want you to get scammed.

8. Someone withdrew money from a bank machine I often went to. They

must have had a card copier there. They deposited a fake amount of money and then withdrew it. When the bank called me I forced them to pull the video tapes. Was a pain in the ass but not the scariest thing I have ever been through.

Saying the same thing. It's possible that records were stolen from a merchant or something.

It should be no problem. It seems like they're on top of it - just look at your statement if you're worried.
