those mini malls were built...before there was an aquarium. The McCormick spice factory was down there where one of those fancy hotels is now, and the aroma was heavenly. They used to give free tours with tea and cookies afterward.

63. There's a tourist-accessable some-paved-paths wildlife management area near my old house...

it's wooded and has a swamp and the smell and everything. It's only about 2 hours up I-84 then maybe another 15 minutes up CT-4. You might want to call first though, there is a no-motorized-vehicles policy and though they shouldn't give you any issues about your motorized wheelchair, sometimes you get some overzealous DEP ranger who might try to make you use the manually-powered wheelchair if you haven't gotten some sort of approval from his superior.

71. Cunningham Falls has a lovely wheelchair accessible trail...

It's short, only 300 yards, but there are places where you can just stop and soak it all in. It's one of my favorite spots in the state. There's also the Western Maryland Rail Trail which traverses some beautiful countryside for some 10 miles.

A number of states are turning abandoned railroad lines into wheelchair accessible hiker/biker trails. I know there's a huge one in Virginia that's close to 50 miles long.

There was a liquor store there that sold King Kobra Malt Liquor
for 99 cents...they did business 24 hours a day through armored glass,
with a little revolving drawer thingie where they took your cash
and returned your hooch.

My "schtick" was, every time someone came along who was eyeing me with bad intent,
I'd wait until they were well into my personal space and then
suddenly meet their eye and yell:
"Hey, do you like BEER? That place has King Kobra for 99 cents,
but I only got 75. If you got a quarter, I'll split one with you"

I produced the 75 cents a good dozen times,
and shared some cheap beer with several folks who I know for a fact
had been thinking about mugging me.
(Just for the record, King Kobra is a rich, full-flavored Malt Brew,
with overtones of wood smoke and GOAT URINE)

I consider that one of the greates achievements of my life.

Obi-Wan Kenobi got by ONCE with his "These aren't the droids you're looking for",
but two minutes later he had to whip out his lightsaber and hurt some folks.

I caught my bus at 5th and NCharles 100 times, and never pulled
my pistol once, let alone fired it.
I got by with my words. Ben Kenobi, not so much.

As to things I like about Maryland, where do I start? Well I'd say most anything about Baltimore: brick rowhouses with marble steps, the Orioles, the Ravens, Barry Levinson movies, David Simon TV projects, (I'm not a big fan of John Waters, but he is inevitably Baltimore), "Welcome to Balmer, Hon!".

Outside of Baltimore: Crab feasts (with newspaper on the picnic tables and old bay on the newspapers), the Chesapeake Bay, Calvert Cliffs State Park, Solomons Island, the mountains of Western Maryland, the beaches of the Eastern Shore, the farms of Southern Maryland, downtown Annapolis, the list goes on and on.

But probably my favorite thing about Maryland? My childhood home. So many great memories in that house. Thankfully, my parents sold it to great owners who seem to appreciate it, and even let me see it when I came back to visit.

I used to love the Baltimore Orioles when I watched baseball and Cal Ripken especially.

Joan Jett grew up there and still identifies it as the place she remembers the most growing up. She also once sang the National Anthem at an Orioles game because she's a big Orioles fan. It was gorgeous to hear too.

But why did they cut Carmen? I would think that would bring a good audience.

I haven't been called for anything for the remainder of the season. I'm a little concerned that they may attempt to save money by reducing their strings.

PLUS, we just got through a weird contract re-negotiation that was not well-received by some of the "protected members" of the orchestra. They were shooting for a two-tier pay scale, which didn't exactly sit well with the rest of us, many of whom have been affiliated with the orchestra as long as the "protected members".
