4. By the way, I have a friend who's going to do something completely unprecedented
She's going to use "At Last" as her wedding song.

14. She's one great singer.
What's going on between them? I haven't heard anything except what I read in this thread. Did she really say that?

3. Works for me
For a while I was torn between "it's her signature song" and "that's how it goes, Etta."

I'll put it from my mind and leave it at that.

24. Well fuck, that ain't going to happen.
Unless Beyonce's next CD has a bloody goat head on the cover and a Bathory cover song, then we'll see. :)

7. Dunno. I *LOVE* Etta James, but really don't understand the
"Obama's not my president" remark from her. Leaves me wondering :wtf: It's going to really bum me out if she's a repug.

11. My personal opinion:
Don't get bitchy about who sings a song unless you're the artist who actually WRITES the damn song.

but that's just me.

18. Now that we've heard them both sing it, and...
we have that movie, let them both die off peacefully.

Or, let the torch pass from a once great but now dried up old prune to a new generation. Take a hint from opera singers who know when to retire gracefully and let new blood sing their signature roles. Most of the time, anyway.

(And don't none of us give a shit about feuds between people we don't know.)

20. Etta is now saying she was joking. That that is her type of
sense of humor. Sounds like BS to me, but hey that is how it goes.

22. I think she tried to joke and the bitterness took over.
Her son said she felt snubbed by Obama. I think she also felt a little left behind, since so many great African American artists had been invited, and her invitation got swept under a rug. And Beyonce sang her song. It's like seeing your ex get invited to a party with all your friends, and you not getting invited.

So I think she tried an in-your-face joke and it turned sour as it came out.

Etta James is a 71 year old woman who had a bad moment out of a lifetime of brilliant ones. She's said it was a joke and that she likes Obama. Hopefully Obama will invite her to White House and give her some honor, and all will be well.

23. I agree. I understand her feeling snubbed.
She said it all wrong, but like you said, I think the bitterness took over.
