I'm going to cry...Why are people so cruel?
I went to check out the website for the shelter that we're working with. I do it every week. Because the woman who takes the pictures is in the hospital nothing has been changed. While I was checking I found this dog:

http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=1551072&adTarget=468doggeneral&SessionID=4048a42d09162a7c-app2&display=&preview=&row=0&tmpl=

He's not at the shelter we work with. He's somewhere else. I read his story and I so feel like crying. Who could do something like this? I know that not all people are cruel and inhumane but reading this story surely makes me like people a lot less today.

3. For those who can't get to the site...
This is the story:

Notes: Cody was rescued from a fate worse than death. He was tied out in an ally with no food, no water and no shelter. No one knows for sure why he has no ears but it is thought that they were froze off. Even through all this neglect, Cody has not lost his spirit or love for people. He is truly a gift and enjoys people and human contact more than anything. He just wants a lap to lay on and friend to love him.

4. I agree. I don't know why people are so cruel.
But I did just let my cat read this to see how good HE has it. I am trying to drink my first cup of coffee and he won't quit bugging me.(BTW, he got his breakfast before I got my coffee)

5. I worked
at a shelter near Columbus Ohio in the late 80's. I lasted 6 weeks. Couldn't eat or sleep and found myself getting angrier and angrier at human beings. Over the course of those loooong 6 weeks I saw a Rott who had been shot with a shotgun, a lioness someone thought would make a cool pet, but who couldn't even stand up when we got her, a Shit Zhu (sp?) whose chain had grown into her neck, and on and on and on...I couldn't take it. And the so-called humane way of euthanasia...well we won't even go there. I still have nightmares about that place.
But I always get my pets at a shelter...well except for the greyhound I rescued, but same idea.
I'd hate to have the kharma some of these cruel a**holes are carrying!

20. Yeah, you gotta be tough...
to work in a shelter. Cruelty to and neglect of animals is second only to cruelty to other humans.

Shelter turnover is enormous everywhere. I was listening to the director of an LA shelter years ago advocating mandatory sterilization of all dogs and cats except for licensed breeders. They killed thousands of animals a year, and between the injured and neglected animals that ended up there and the constant killing, very few could stick it out.

Me, I'm betwixt sobbing uncontrollably and equally uncontrollable rage.

7. Will, you are a person of exceptional heart
you impress me much with your empathy and love for animals.

I wish more people had your compassion, and fewer people had freep-passion. :-)

8. We rescued our Border Collie
and she was mangy and soooooo skinny. She has the signs that she was beaten because I went to sweep the kitchen when we first brought her home and she saw the broom and cowered and started shaking. She must have been beaten by a woman because when we have friends over she is always fine with men but she will not let women who she doesn't know come near her. She growls at them and then runs.

She is so loving to us though. She looks like a million bucks now and you can tell she is just so happy to have a good home. I don't think I have ever come across a dog who is so "appreciative" of their environment.

13. Mrs bearfan's dog Prissy was beaten.
They played hockey with her with brooms. Mrs bearfan and I(usually) can not sweep the kitchen without her going ape shit and biting at the broom. It was her X's dog.

9. I know exactly what you mean.
My partner and I rescued Annie from a shelter here in Dallas. The person who had her as a puppy decided instead of taking the time to house train her, he would just pour scalding hot water on her butt. Her back legs are now bare with no hair at all. I still cry sometimes when I think of what she must have had to go through. Peace to you.

10. Many people in the world do not deserve a dog's love and devotion.
It's just criminal.

12. That made me cry. One of my babies is named Cody.
He is such a love & a clown. I cannot imagine being mad at him for more than a moment.
I sure as hell cannot imagine someone being so cruel to such a sweetie, one that just wants to love you.

14. You should read some of the cases of cruelty
posted on the animal rescue groups that I subscribe to. Makes me want to kill the people who do such things to poor defenseless animals. And maybe that's why I like animals better than humans. I don't think that animals are even capable of cruelty.

I couldn't...
It hurts so bad just to read one story and realize that I can't help. I couldn't go through that on a daily basis. You are a far better (stronger) person than I, I'm afraid.

15. You need this good story.....
I'm currently taking care of a sweet puppy who was "liberated" by another DUer from an owner who kicked, yelled, and neglected him. He's spoiled rotten now and he even got his name from a suggestion of another DUer (I wish I could remember who). The pup is now Wellstone and I just posted a new thread with his update.

I love DU because things like this really does keep me from going insane. It's nice to know so many good people.

17. I also ran across a Petfinder listing that made me want to cry . . .
scroll down to the fourth dog -- Louie -- and read what his owners did . . . how anyone can do this to their faithful companion of ten years is totally beyond my comprehension . . .

19. You want me to cry, don't you?
I read that one and Shiloh.

Every day I like people less and less.

Thank goodness for DU folks. At least I can always count on caring people here.
