Update on Wellstone, the unofficial DU dog!
For those of you who don't know, Wellstone is the beautiful sweet puppy who was liberated from an abusive asshole owner by our very own DUer, Silverlib *applause*. I now take care of him and spoil him rotten *more applause*.

He had his first doggy doctor appointment today and he's estimated to be a little under 3 months old. The big suprise is that the doctor thinks he's a lab/pit mix. Silverlib and I both saw the lab part in him but the pit bull part is news to me.

I had a chip implanted in him out of fear that by some strange fluke, we have issues with the previous owner (doubtful, but you never know and I want to make sure I don't have to hand him over to someone who kicks puppies). He has round worm that he's taking medicine for which is pretty common for pups and other than that, he's healthy and doing very well. In about a month or so, I'll be taking him to a pet trainer so if anyone in the Austin area has any recommendations, send them my why.

My digital camera is on the fritz so you'll have to wait for pictures next week. He has a beautiful chocolate coat and eyes that will melt your heart. I promise to post those pics as soon as I can!

5. Maybe I can bring him to the next Austin DU get together
I wanted to meet you all for breakfast that one Sunday, but I came down with the worst case of strep throat and couldn't make it.

7. Definitely!
I heard about your strep. Ick! Glad you're better.

I think it would be neat to have an outdoor event, like a picnic when the weather is a tad nicer, but before it gets oppressively hot.

8. great idea
My only thing is that Wellstone has to wait 3 weeks before I can take him to parks because of the risk of parvo. Since I don't know his history, the doctor had to assume he's had no shots and today was just his first round.

Fortunately he should be ready for Eeyore's birthday party in April!

3. So good to hear a puppy update!
I had read the thread where SilverLib was debating whether or not to rescue the pup... I'm glad it all turned out well (so far...)!

4. Honestly, I don't think it could have been any better!
I've grown up with dogs all my life, but Wellstone is, hands down, the best puppy I've ever had. The only issue I have with him is biting and chewing which is an issue with every puppy.

He's very loving and wants to be a lap dog...good for now, but he's probably going to grow up to weigh 65-80 pounds so we'll see how that turns out!

I can't wait to post pictures of him, he's a heart stealer.

15. Wow, I almost missed your update!!!
I am so glad he is doing well. Maybe that little round worm was why his ribs were showing? I bet that will change quickly. Is he better with strangers yet?

The neighbors have never mentioned that he was gone. It makes me so sad. I thought I would have to add lying to thievery, but not so. Of course, he really came to me in the end. I didn't have to steal him. (uh-oh, sound like my teenager!) I think Wellstone is incredibly smart and somehow knew exactly what he was doing. Every time it rains, I think of how he could be over there with no cover/protection instead of laying on his yellow pillow chewing on a bone.

Half pit bull? That is a surprise.

Did you hear about the get-together at Threadgill's tomorrow? Not exactly a place for Wellstone, but it should be interesting. information is on the activism forum.
