52. I lived there in 1964 while in the Army. I suspect it has grown a tad
since then. I loved the area when I was there. It was gorgeous and because I am an erstwhile artist, Bucks County was quite artistically oriented which appealed to me.

Chalfont was only a crossroads location when I was there.

13. The Declaration of Independence
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson in the Graff House in Philadelphia. When in doubt, I go for the historical aspects of a state to get at what I like about it.

Philadelphia can be the butt of jokes and sometimes gets a bad rap - but I like it anyway. Maybe it's the history, or the vibe, or the food I enjoyed many years ago when I went on a field trip there, but I like Philly more than most east coast cities.

14. The 10,000+ York City residents who voted for Barack Obama
and who never voted before in their lives, for the most part. In 2004, York had a voter turnout of 10%. 10 fracking percent, when I had registered more than 400 people myself
in this city of about 40,000. This time, 10,000+ voted for Barack, killing the 3900 idiots who voted for McCain (and the only ones who usually vote.)

77. Love Jims Steaks...we sat at the table that had John Candys photo above it!
We spent the whole day on South Street showing a kid from L.A around town because we were on a filming project...the kid ( well, he was about 19 ) kept stopping at every other block taking pictures because he said our architecture here was nothing like what it was on the west coast. I mean, he was taking pictures of project buildings on the way downtown...and City Hall, forget it! We couldn't drag him away from that building! and when we went to Jims steaks he pretty much raved about how good the food was, we actually couldn't get this guy to leave! We were on a tight filming schedule so we had to get going.

48. Funny thing about that...I have a friend in Jersey who complains about our state stores
Now...let me just say this, I love beer and I can get it just about any time I want. There are about ten places just in my area ( two in short walking distance ) where I can get that. A state store will, of course only sell hard liquor and wines, but the hours they are open are pretty reasonable.
The only time I'll go there is to pick up some scotch or a bottle of Jamisons. I find it funny that people in Jersey find it such a hardship for a place to not sell hard liquor 24/7.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 05:51 PM by Mike 03
Dutch Wonderland (with the red monorail) and Hershey Park. They were fantastic. My sisters and I loved those places.

And for what it's worth, my dad LOVED something called "shoe fly pie" which we could only get in Dutch Wonderland.

I also vaguely remember something called "Hex Signs" that my mother was fascinated by.

I have no clue if they still exist as real entities or whether they are long gone.

90. To be serious for a moment, part of what's great about Pennsylvania is that it's
so damn BIG (at least horizontally). You have Philadelphia, which is very much a mid-Atlantic city, and Pittsburgh (which is farther from Philadelphia than Boston is), which is very much a Midwestern city.

In between, you have parts of the state that could be Vermont, Virginia, Germany, the fertile fields of France, almost anywhere that's not tropical.

The part of Pennsylvania where I used to live got ruined by development starting in the 1970s, and I can barely stand to visit there anymore, but the state as a whole is still a wonderful place.

91. A certain somebody I met when I was 16 years old....
....who resided in a certain Central Pennsylvania city. That was awesome. The fact that I still think about that certain somebody years later confirms it was awesome.

Now I'm all bittersweet.
