4. Best as I can tell there is glass in my beans
Thought I'd be all healthy, wise, and shit ...pfft.

A bag of 15 bean dry beans contains silicon dioxide.

Reading is over-rated.

:(

5. Silicon dioxide is sorta like carbon dioxide but different. It shows up uninvited
everywhere. I once found some cement clinker in a bag of fertilizer. If I had planned to eat it, I think I would have rinsed it off, but it never occurred to me. To rinse it off, I mean. Or to eat it. Actually, neither occurred to me. Life is funny that way

6. Lutefisk is the only lye-enhanced food I know of.
And my mother told me that as a toddler, I would cry if I had to be in the same room as lutefisk.

7. Hominy- that's great stuff.
I have a 4-cheese Hominy Casserole recipe that is SOO good,
it's the only time I'll willingly consume Gorgonzola chesse,
which we all know is not actually a 'cheese' but a byproduct
of lighter fluid manufacture.

14. You -DO- realize that I'm crazy enough to actually do that...
But do you realize that I'm so fucking batshit-insane
that I'd actually make it taste GOOD?

I really would, you know.

11. Olives by a landslide!
I remember that one time when I was in the military in Greece, I decided to pick an olive off of a tree and pop it in my mouth. Big mistake. It makes me wonder how humankind ever considered the olive tree as a source of food. (BTW, I love all kinds of olives, and the first guy who thought to soak them in lye should be a saint!)

12. I'd heard they're bitter direct from the tree. But properly cured, they're great

15. Commercially processed potatoes
Are peeled by soaking them in lye and then neutralizing it with hydrochloric acid. Or maybe it's the other way around, but I know that those are the two chemicals involved.

The "organic food advocate" who told me this was outraged: "They use two poisons!" Um...let me guess, lady. Chemistry was not your strongest subject in high school, right?

18. With those two chemicals
What you wind up with, once it stops fizzing like crazy, are water and salt. While an excess of either isn't good for you, three fourths of the earth's surface is covered with 'em.
