Kids should be playing Guitar Hero, not being them. Amazing 11 y/o kid shredder..
Around the interwebs I've read comments about how Guitar Hero, Rock Band, hip hop, you name it, is going to ruin the future of rock and roll because no one will be able to play an instrument.

Don't worry about it:

Joe Satriani was asked about young up and comer's in the guitar world
Satriani interview

"My bet is on the really young kids that we don't know about yet.

I say that because in the last few years that we've been touring, when we look out into the audience we're beginning to see 10 year olds, and 12 year olds, and 14 year olds...

...I think that generation is going to be really fantastic."

The kid I'm talking about is way ahead of that curve.

Here he is playing Paul Gilbert's Scarified.

He's 11 in the video, playing for an audience. :scared:

3. Isn't that something?
When people link these things I usually expect/hope for something really good, like this kid playing Glasgow Kiss in his bedroom, but this Anton kid is live, standing up and playing like Paul Gilbert himself.

It makes my heart soar and sink at the same time.

2. I don't know where people get their ideas.
My 12-year-old son started taking guitar lessons BECAUSE of Guitar Hero. His instructor also told me that his student amount doubled in the last two years because of it. They all want to be REAL guitar heroes.

I think it's great! :)

6. tell em to play real instruments - that's what I tell my kid

he plays drums, recorder and guitar already in addition to the "fake" guitar, so I guess i don't have to worry too much...

13. Wow, that kid is great! My son developed a good interest in both guitar and drums because of Rock
Band. It has also awakened a creative streak in scale building which is something my son really excels at.

15. I am amazed at his fine motor skills
Since I teach Music to elementary students, I know that developing those fine motor skills is essential and can make playing instruments frustrating.

Great clip, thanks! :hi:

16. I hate shredding.
But, the kid can obviously do it, and it's not easy.

I hope to hell he's learning some other playing techniques, though.

17. If you can drive a Formula One car through the streets of Monaco
you can handle a Prius at 65 on the freeway!
:-)

In other videos it's mentioned that AC/DC is his favorite band, and in another vid--after some shredding that even I didn't like--he plays a lil' Chet Atkins.

There's hope for him.

****** In one video, he plays one of Paul Gilberts shred solos on a regularly tuned guitar. Gilbert did his with 3 strings tuned to "E" and using a 'human capo' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW8oFu1lakQ&feature=related

My lil' Ruskie guitar hero plays it the hard way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8EJ-4RHjs0&feature=related from about :20-:57

Jesus Christ look at him go.

Like some commenter said:
"his fingers look like a spider on a hot-plate."

This kid may be the best some day.

18. Aren't people always saying "new invention" will cause the downfall of "something cool"
This seems to happen to every generation. People are lamenting that texting will cause the downfall of English. Before that, it was computers will cause the downfall of writing. Before that, rock and roll will cause the downfall of moral values. Before that, two piece bathing suits will cause the downfall of civil society. Before that, knee length dresses will cause the downfall of ladylike purity. And the list goes on and on and on.

People need to give it a rest, and understand that new technology isn't ruining anything.

20. Been to a Toys R Us lately? They have a whole seperate...
isle of nothing but real musical instruments! 7 piece drum kits, kid sized guitars with cheapo foot pedals for effects. Now if out of all this GH or RB stuff gives us one or two future Claptons, SRV or a couple of Neal Pearts, then it would benefit the world.
