I want to take a REAL vacation this summer.

My sons' father will have them for two weeks this summer, so I will be on my own during that time.

I don't have the funds for a cruise or island-getaway deal, but would like to go somewhere to relax and work on my tan - but for no longer than a week.

Ideas?

Northerners are very welcome down here.
Tourism is our biggest industry and we love visitors.
Seriously.
It's cheaper than Florida and the beaches are better.
Sugar white sand that's so fine it squeaks when you walk on it.
Huge selection of restaurants, from beach burger hangouts to haute cuisine.

2. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

I've only been once and would love to go back..in other words if you want company let me know!
Either that or the Outer Banks of NC..my mom goes everyyear and LOVES it.

19. A couple Outer Banks beaches I like

This is Ocracoke, probably the most relaxing of all Outer Banks beaches since it's the most isolated. Most of the island is national seashore so none of the houses are close to the beach. You'll probably have to drive to get to the beach.



This is Duck. The beaches are a bit more crowded but it's easy to find places to stay that are within easy walking distance of the beach.

For both places I recommend off-season though. I suspect they're much more crowded in the summer.

The beer is awesome. There's not a huge number of people sunbathing nekkid, but you can certainly do that if you want.

Its got a really nice mix of European/carribean culture. And its the best beaches EVER! Oh plus..it only gets hit by hurricanes like once every 30 years....
