2. Count me as one! Turner Classic Movies just ran a terrific documentary
On Chaplin a couple of nights ago! To this day, seemingly everyone in the film industry is an awe of Chaplin's awesome talent! Johnny Depp said he could watch Chaplin's Globe Dance scene in "The Great Dictator" non-stop for literally weeks. He described how it took him like 3 weeks of relentless, continuous practice to get down Charlie's bun dance from "The Gold Rush" - and he knows Chaplin basically did it in one take. (although, ultra-perfectionist that he was - he probably did it perfect several times - and chose the best of the best.) His daughter, Geraldine, described the fact that every detail of the globe dance was written out by Chaplin, but his Hitler (or Bushler) Pseudo German speeches were all just improvs - with Chaplin telling his camera man to just roll the camera to see what happens. The little guy led an interesting life, to say the least - but there's no denying that he was an AMAZING talent!!

5. this is tyhe 2nd volume of the set
vol 1, which came out in june of last year, had The Great Dictator (amazing relevant today), Modern Times (my personal fav), Limelight, and The Gold Rush (in botyh it's original silent form and Chaplin-narrated rerelease)

there were great extras and the remastering and restoration on the Golfd Rush was phenomenal-same on the others, but they didn't need it to quite the same degree.

I just got this from amazon this mornig, so I haven't got to watch it, but I imagine it will be on the same level in terms of quality. whoever is putting these together for warner bros is doing it out of a labor of love

here's what's in this set
City Lights
The KId
Monsieur Verdoux
A King in New York
The Chaplin Revue
A woman of Paris
Charlie ( a two-hourdocumentary which, I believe, is the one that TCM showed that an earlier poster referred to)

4. Ah, Chaplin, the little tramp indeed...
...When he wasn't busy impregnating 16-year-olds, he was defining cinema.

6. The nice thing about Charlie is
as long as his fellow actors had faith in his directorial skills he was more than willing to cut them in bigtime on the funny business.
Jackie Oakie all but stole the show in "The Great Dictator" "Hinkie! Mah Dictator-a-pal!"
Ditto Paulette Goddard in "Modern Times"
Even Martha Raye got some good bits out of "M. Verdoux"...
Whatzisface who played the drunken playboy in "City Lights".

That is the mark of a great comedian, the willingness to cut someone else in on a piece of the action.
