1. Anybody who talks baby talk (unless to a baby) is not *pretending* to be stupid.

16. I never spoke to my babies like that. . .
and they've thanked me repeatedly for never compromising my IQ or theirs. Never quite understood the mechanics of the baby talk phenomenon. I have to admit I've lapsed into it a couple times with terminally cute animals, but I feel foolish doing it. :P

In romantic relationships, I think I'd see that as a major turn-off.

3. One of my teachers stated that this sort of thing is normal
and that it's not the sound, but the love which is projected that is what is important. Babies and dogs don't care what the sounds are, but will soak up the love for as long as you're willing to gift it.

Others will provide sufficient baby talk replies to negate my having to also do so. ;)

15. Some people may just think that adulthood, and its expected behavioral norms, are highly overrated
Now if someone was just purposely being a condescending jerk and using "baby talk" to you for effect, then that's an entirely different thing, but I can easily see a point to people who don't eagerly outgrow "childish" interests.

5. Did the bag boy talk funny at you today?
:hide: Honesly, I think baby talk can be cute, but only privately, in the context of a serious relationship. "Pay-pahs or plastices?" -- not so much.

8. Well...
there have been Physiogonomy (spelling?) studies that show cross-culturally, human beings are automatically drawn towards baby face features regardless of the age of the person. So possibly, it could extend to baby talk and acting stupid. However, since I just pulled that second part directly out of my ass, I would actually bet that it has something to do with male/female socialization. Since that is probably BS too, i would say it is because some people are douchebags :P

11. Is Maddy a little dingo?
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 01:30 AM by XemaSab
Or is she a nicee girl?

She has dingo breaths in her, she does. Maybe she has a little dingo in her? Maybe she has... little dingo breaths in her?

Pippi is a little dingo.

She doesn't want us to talk about that... no. She says that's very personal. She says being dingo is a personal matter.

Pippi is a nicee girl though.

I like Pippi. I do. I do.

I eat Pippi later.

Right now we eat Bailey.

Just a little. Just a little.

Bailey is my guy.

He's the only good boy in the house. Yes.

He has a tiny peepee, but he couldn't help that, no.

I like Bailey. Little Bee.

He's not like that Maddy.

Maddy eats the people; she eats Mama, yes.

Maybe Maddy has to go to the pound.

We take Maddy to the pound.

On Thursday. For puppy class.

Maddy had to go to the pound.

All the time, we take Maddy to pound.

Bailey had to go to the pound. He was very bad, so we took him to pound. For puppy class. Now Bailey's a good boy.

On edit: Pippi is a Dingo-American. She said it was a good idea to make a tapestry like the Bayeaux tapestry about the dingoes coming to Australia. She thought that was a good idea.

19. I hate the Claritin commercial
with the grown woman who prances in the field. She is trying to be terminally cute, and her speech just borders on babytalk ("...for people with indoor allergies, outdoor allergies, and people like me who have...BOTH!"). She swings her arms around like a little girl, too.

Hate it.

22. It is only cute when talking to babies or animals.
A woman here at work (I can't STAND her) talks baby talk almost regularly. She walked in one day and we were eating our lunch. She said "it smells like a west-a-want (restaurant). I almost threw my food at her. Blah.

Also, if the woman is hot, many men will respond to any attention at all.
