Good morning Lounge
How are you today? How was your weekend? I was lazy. Didn't do much. Saturday I was up before 8am because the phone guy was supposed to show up between 8am and 1pm. Guess when he showed up ... 12.45pm ... but he did find the mistake and now my phone is working again. So is my Internet :woohoo:
I also finally sorted my books in my shelves. Hardcover, paperback, novels in German, novels in English, my section about Native Americans, biographies, history ....
And I finished re-doing my wooden chest. I grinded it and varnished it again. It looks really nice now. You can see the structure of the wood. Just beautiful.
The rest of the weekend I slept and watched TV.

thank you :hi:

I love Prague. It is a beautiful city. Also, part of my family is Czech (though not from Prague) so I guess I feel a slight connection to the Czech Republic.

When I visited Prague (briefly, 3? years ago) I saw/heard My Vlast at symphony! A great surprise! Something about that piece has captured me.

Thank you!

11. I'm not certain;
we had language problems, as well as me trying to explain softly, in symphony hall! And you're correct about Indian music; I live with a Pakistani, and I don't get much of it, tho I did and do love Ravi Shankar etc. My friend, however, is very fond of Western symphonic music.

14. You know I find it very interesting
that Western Classical music is so much loved in Asia (esp. Japan) but that the Western world barely knows anything about Asian music. Except Bollywood.

But I have to admit I like this one

Random question: How much interest is there in Native Americans in areas outside America?

I know that the one of the few codes that was never broken in World War II was Navajo. :D

I can just picture the Japanese going "WHAT?" :D

8. There is interest in Native Americans in Europe
esp. Germany. Not sure how deep it goes though. I am interested in the topic quite a bit and read a lot. The interest started as a youth with a novel about a Sioux, which was written very well. By now I found out the author used George Catlin's pictures as inspiration. Since then I read a lot. Every time I am in the U.S. I go to a book store and search the Native American section for new books.

So glad your phone and Internet work again!!!

I went to the sherrifs office on saturday to receive the little things the burglars did not hock. I had to wait in the waiting room with people who were waiting to visit inmates at the jail. Little mb got sad when she realized the kids in the waiting room may have been there to see their dads :(

Glad to hear you got some of your jewelery back. I hope they find more. I am sorry to hear though that you and Little mb had to witness those children. But maybe it was a good thing for Little mb in the long run.

Fabulous photo!

Glad to hear that your phone and internet service are working again. You've been very patient on that issue.

You are funny. First you say you had a relaxing weekend, and then you list a whole Litany of chores that you accomplished. I'm blushing here because most of my books are still in their boxes. Still haven't decided where to put them. And you've been in your place less than a month, and not only have you unpacked your books, but you categorized them too.

Now me? I can truly say I relaxed yesterday. As a matter of fact I never got out of my jammies. I did a lot of sleeping, which I really needed. Last week was very stressful with little sleep all week. This morning I truly feel energized.

I did all the "chores" yesterday. Saturday I just goofed off. After the phone guy left I went back to sleep. And before the guy came I was a couch potato. And I do need to get the stuff done before my house warming party in 2 weeks. So there is a deadline ... LOL

Sleeping is good. If you slept that much it means your body needed it.

we all work so hard during the week, we sometimes forget that our bodies need downtime.

Yes, you are right, I definitely needed the rest. I slept most of Sunday and was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, but I was wrong. Still can't believe that I slept as much as I did.

22. Good morning Ms. HC
It sounds like you do what I do sometimes, just take a break from everythig sometimes. Good for you. Good for your head.
I spent last week in the VA. hills. I was lucky because we had a beautiful snow. Anyway after the snow the moon came out and it was almost like daytime except it was so so quiet. The cold air let me see the sky line of Winston Salem fify miles away. The lights of MT. Airy down in the valley below twinkled when it wasn't snowing.I've decided that is my favorite place in the world. I took a few pics, so I might show them to you later.
I'm headed for the NC coast later this week if I can find some oysters to roast.

You got a lot more accomplished than I did last weekend. I wrote a few of stories for DU, did my laundry, visited with some relatives, and did a little reading. As unproductive as my weekend was, I wish my life could be like that all the time. :) I want to be independently wealthy and live a life of leisure. Well, I guess we probably all do, eh?

I've applied for 6 different jobs over the past couple of weeks. Nary a nibble. I know things are bad and unemployment is high, but I think it is higher than average in my neck of the woods. I guess I should be happy that I still have a job and can pay the note on my little condo.

Did you post your stories in the Lounge? I need to go search for them then.

Hey, at least you were outside your condo. I didn't leave mine at all

You know, for a time it would be nice to do nothing and have a life of leisure. But after a while I would get bored. I love my job and even if I were wealthy enough to not having to work, I still would work.

You are in the fortunate position that you can look for another job while still having one. Takes the pressure out of it.

Doesn't sound like you were very lazy -- sorting books, refinishing your chest. Lazy is when you lounge in front of the TV. :D

Love the pic! :bounce:

My weekend was too busy. I had a bunch of "homework" to do and wasn't able to finish it. And we wanted something special for our dance room, so harleydad planed some barn wood and made some very cool pieces. I'll take pics when they're all up. I never knew planing wood took so long, but you can only take off a little at a time. We finally got done and then I finished all the pieces.

So today I'm tired.

Yeah. Anyone can have one. Just have a room that you can't afford to buy furniture for! We had one in our first house -- it was the dining room. It had a little chandelier in it and a wood floor, so we called it the ballroom until we got some furniture. Then we took dancing lessons when we lived in our next house and always had to move furniture in order to practice. This time, we decided not to buy furniture for the little room in the basement. It's just for dancing. Billyskank tried it out with me when he was here. :D

How was your weekend?

55. well, I have a long hallway (with high ceilings)
which is painted bright yellow (I'm talking crayola yellow) and since I rent, I'm not allowed to change it. Now, there's nothing wrong with yellow, except that it's not a great color for me and this shade is a little (a lot) over the top. So I was thinking of ways to tone it down. What I decided to do is create a mobile that basically runs the length of the hallway, made up of origami cranes - so it looks like a flock of birds is flying overhead. Then I found these things called wall decals, essentially removable stickers for the walls, which I think I'm going to have fun with. I found one that is a 7 foot tree in a metallic bronze color that I'm going to put at the end of the hallway (it will go nicely with a turtle sculpture I already have hanging on the wall) and blue and metallic silver butterflies on the walls, so it will have sort of a garden theme.

It might work out okay.

48. I did enjoy my class
particularly after the prof shut down another woman in the class - this woman had gotten really upset with me on the online forum for the class, mostly because she had read a reading wrong and I correctly her - gently, of course, but she didn't take it that way. She was arguing over really basic tenants to the subjects, which was kind of funny. The prof told her she was wrong, which was kind of nice.

Oh, no one was holding you to the organization of your books - after all, you don't have to organize them. You could do what I did, which was throw them all up on the shelves and pretend that you have some secret organization that only you know about. :D

67. Ikea
The answer is Ikea. They have some decent book shelves that don't cost the world.

People charge so much for them because people read less, therefor they sell less ... and to get at least some profit they have to make them more expensive. At least that is what I think it is.

the price of books keeps going up, the cost of storing those books goes up, and here at least, libraries are closing. Yep, we are being punished.

78. In Germany we have fixed prices for books
not a chance to make them more expensive. They are expensive as it is already.

Libraries aren't closing here, but not getting enough money. I was always amazed how many librarians there are in the U.S. Way more than in Germany.

fixed prices. Are they fixed by the government?

Some libraries here are closing, the rest definitely don't have enough money. I have one within walking distance to me, but it is dismal. I keep thinking that if I were in charge of running the library system I would do it completely differently - make them more inviting. They are so dark and uncomfortable, it makes it so you don't want to spend time in one. :(

We have such libraries here as well. Libraries here are matter of the city, so it always depends on the city how good the library is.

82. Recipe for homemade soda
Soda flavor extract (available from homebrew shops and other specialty stores)
Sugar
Water
Yeast, the activated yeast in the supermarket will work, but champagne yeast works better

Follow directions in extract box.

You can make your own flavor extract by finding recipes online, but it's extra work to make. There are ginger beer recipes online, but I haven't found root beer recipes.
