1. my go-to brand is Jif, but I'll eat anything. More often than not, I get the all natural kind now.

Answer: No. No retail brands of jarred peanut butter were made there. At least that's what they're telling us...

29. Hmm--right now it's Peter Pan.

Tart cherry butter is the jam--the contrast between acidic and creamy works for me. The jewel-like maroon against the tan is also aethetically pleasing. Wild blueberry can also be n excellent choice. Or elderberry, which kindles maternal memories for some. And for bread--

A bagel is preferred. Not toasted. Fresh, chewy, something with grainy solidity. I'm thinking an oat bran bagel. (An "everything" bagel or bialy would never do.) Cinnamon raisin is nice, but a little "busy". The bread is for support, not really the star of the sammich. If sliced bead, a dark german whole wheat or multigrain is ok--but the cut should be diagonal, so that one may eat it by approaching the toast points. It's more refined that way than stuffing a horizontal slab in one's mouth.

Elvis fans will never forget the Fluffernutter, but they really should-- unless it's made with bananas, too.

(Now, I understand that all this conflicts with the classic Peter Pan and Welch's grape jelly that I grew up with and should always be considered the standard, but fuck that-- I hate the stuff.)

1. Sun-Pat when in UK, store brand in US (what ever is going cheap). I refuse to buy Jif because back in UK it's a brand of bathroom cleaner.
2. Hartleys' or store brand in UK, usually store brand in US, sometimes Wilkins & Sons for a treat.
3. Cut the bread? That's sacriledge!

Or any oil-on-top natural. Smooth or crunchy but I prefer smooth. Stir when room temp then refrigerate.

Wheat bread or Arnold's Health Nut.

PB on one slice, a little jelly on the other. A slice of american or cheddar cheese maybe if protein starved..

Cut in half not diagonally. Make two. Enjoy with potato chips, low salt , natural, or whatever. Coffee or milk.

35. I'm an expert. Here's what you need to know.

*Jiff creamy + *Welch's grape jam +(this is the critical ingredient) most any *Arnold multi-grain bread (uncut) = best PB&J sandwich in the world. I've averaged about 1 a day for most of my life. Ten thousand of them fuckers, easy.

Don't go cheap when it comes to the bread or the result will be less than second rate. Peter Pan is an excellent alternate and jelly will do in a pinch, but jam is better. Arnold is just the brand we have around here. Any dark, hearty looking, gritty, multi-grain will probably do the trick, but don't be too cavalier about it. In my opinion, the bread really is the key to a great PB&J, or any sandwich. Regular ol' white bread is an abomination not worth the plastic it's wrapped in.

* Brands, of course, aren't really that important. I think any good quality brand will do.

on edit: I forgot to mention the importance of leaving the sandwich in its original rectangular shape. There's a reason you can't buy triangular loafs of bread. No triangles. Also, eat the sandwich from the bottom of the bread, nibbling your way to the top crust. That last strip will provide a worthy climax to the whole experience.

And please, for god's sake, don't slop the ingredients willy-nilly on the bread! Take your time, trowel them on carefully, from corner to corner as if you were laying tile. It only takes a couple extra seconds but pays off big time. We all need to be a little anal about some things at sometime, and this is one of those things and one of those times.

1. No brand - fresh ground pb from a local shop. Nothing but peanuts, and it's fresh, so the oil won't have separated.
2. Any 100% fruit spread, or homemade cranberry sauce, apple butter, or apricot butter.
3. Any direction will do - I vary it.
4. This is of key importance if the sandwich is not to be eaten immediately: The pb must be spread on both slices of bread (thinly). Then the jam can go in the middle.
