Little things that excite you: I found out that Mark Bittman's Kitchen is the same size as mine
Most cooks have atleast one professional chef they trust (atleast i think so), Bittman is mine. His recipes are a great base and require your own touches. I really enjoy his minimalist approach.

Anyhow, he lives in NYC and his kitchen is about the same size as mine and has the same problems.

I am not sure why, but it was quite exciting for me :)

Bittman's Kitchen

Article about his bad kitchen :)

2. I am so claustrophobic that I couldn't maneuver in that kitchen.
Mine isn't nearly as large as I would like it.

But it sounds like you get lots of yummy cooking done!!!

13. I do...
that's the only thing I miss back in CT. The mountaintop chateau had a 12 x 20 professionally equipped kitchen with brand-new stainless steel commercial-grade appliances. My apartment has a galley-kitchen and horror of horrors...a standard fridge-and-freezer combo and only one oven!

6. I went from a large kitchen to a small galley kitchen.
One of the handiest things I did was take this 7 1/2 foot tall shelf my husband made and mount it to a wall near the stove. I put planter hooks up and down both sides to hang my pans. I use the shelves as part pantry and part small appliance corral. In a pinch I lay plates of food, etc on the containers of flours. I took metal floor shelves and put them over the portable dishwasher, using only the top 2 shelves. My husband made an enormous spice rack for the space behind a door. I use my one big platter as art, same with my tiled bread tray. I'm always trying to find solutions to make the space work a little easier.
I have a working kitchen, not a fancy showplace. :)

12. It isn't your small kitchen that is the problem.

It's that you live in a walk-up apartment. I can't come visit. :(

I know that you are a great cook. You've whipped up good food on no notice the one time I was there. I can imagine how great it is when you're planning and preparing. :9

16. I remind myself that my 8 x 8 (that's to the walls) kitchen would be heaven in a NYC walk-up.
