Ripping cds - anyone have this issue before...
Some times when I rip cds to my lap top my burner/drive makes a louder than normal whirring sound and then sometimes a cd will rip almost silently. Anyone have a clue why this happens?

1. I've noticed it.....
My thought is that it is probably due to subtle imbalances in each individual disk. But it's just a theory.

2. It's kind of weird...
I just ripped a U2 cd and thought my drive was going take off flying through the house and then another cd was so quiet I had to keep checking to making sure it was even ripping.

4. Probably due to differences in the dimensions of the CD
flatter discs tend to spin quieter, while those that are not as flat (warped) to tend to create more noise when they spin.

5. can be caused by out of balance CDs
do you put labels on them or even write on them with a sharpe?
