*Mount San Antonio & the San Gabriel Range*
All the rain down here has translated into snow up there...

I got out there this morning:

1. Gorgeous!
I'm always jealous that the one city with snow covered mountains in its background is LA rather than San Francisco.

2. My DEAR CreekDog!
Oh, thank you, sweetie, for rescuing my thread...

I know...San Francisco should have something like this there...

Of course, the Bay is gorgeous too, but differently...

Glad you enjoyed these!

5. I almost had a car accident my first week in Santa Monica ...
I came over the hill on Ocean Park, day after a big rain, and saw exactly what you photographed. Mountains that are usually hard to see at all, much less covered with snow.

I had to pull over and stare. It is RARELY that clear, and those mountains are high, too.

Great pics, Peggy!

I've heard stories like yours before! The view can truly be astonishing!

I'm very lucky in that I can just see the mountains from my home...Not well enough to photograph from there, but well enough to know that I need to get out to the park I use...

They are high; Mt. Baldy is 10,000 feet high...a real mountain!

I have to confess: I did use my Photoshop program to increase the clarity...the view was a bit hazier!

Glad you enjoyed them, sweetie! Thank you...

10,000 feet, evrything below that is pretty much a foothill.

And I agree with you completely...anything under 10,000 feet is just a foothill!

Oooh, nice! You're a lot closer than I am...

You might try going over to the Kenny Hahn Regional Park, in Inglewood. It's on La Cienega...in the Balwin Hills, I think...

We are so lucky to have these wonderful mountains, aren't we?

Thanks for coming by!

14. How beautiful
Stunning

It's snowing up here in Seattle. Again. I have a mountain view from my backyard, but alas, all I see is more of that white stuff which I refuse to name again.

It's not supposed to do that up here so often.x(

20. HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD!
That screwy ballyhooey Hollywood
Where any office boy or young mechanic can be a panic
With just a good looking pan
And any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan

Hooray for Hollywood,
Where you're terrific if you're even good
Where anyone at all from Shirley Temple to Aimee Semple
Is equally understood
Go out and try your luck, you might be Donald Duck
Hooray for Hollywood

Hooray for Hollywood
That phoney super-Coney Hollywood
They come from Chillicothes and Paducas with their bazookas
To get their names up in lights
All armed with photos from local rotos
With their hair in ribbon and legs in tights

Hooray for Hollywood
You may be homely in your neighborhood
But if you think that you can be an actor, see Mr. Factor
He'll make a monkey look good
Within a half an hour you'll look like Tyrone Power
Hooray for Hollywood

Hooray for Hollywood

but if I use my imagination and squint a little, here in flat Indiana, a distant line of thunderhead clouds can look a lot like the tops of snow covered mountains.

Nice photos, Peggy!

So I got up a bit early today, and had a look out my window, where I can just see them...

That was all I needed to motivate myself!

Glad you could come by!

26. There were maybe 10 days of clear skies like this
a year when I was growing up in LA. Even if you eliminated all made made air pollution, the LA basin still be more hazy than most places because the basin is good at trapping all particulates. But those clear days and nights in LA are spectacular.

27. My dear musiclawyer!
That is certainly true...

Even the native peoples who lived here before the Spanish and the Americans arrived had hazy air...

The smoke from their fires rose up and spread out, just as our air pollution does now.

The inversion layer works, no matter what's in the air.

Thanks for coming by!

28. Thank you Peggy... I was looking for the picture on the front page of today's LA Times,
the one with the boats in Huntington Harbor in the foreground and the snowy San Gabriels in the background, but I could not find it on their web site. Who needs that anyway, now that we can see your pictures. This is LA at its most beautiful.

Aw, thanks!

You are NOT going to believe this, but it happened!

After I got done taking these, and I was putting my stuff on the passenger seat of my car, I noticed a guy sitting in his car right next to me...

We started talking...

Turns out HE took that picture you were looking for!

He's quite a photographer, wouldn't you say?

I love LA when she looks like this!

32. CaliforniaPeggy, years ago I awoke to that view
We were staying in a hotel in downtown Pasadena. Our room faced east. The weather (and air quality) was kinda so-so until a cold front pushed through during the night. We awoke with a dazzling clear view of the San Gabriel's dusted with snow. They appeared so close you just wanted to reach out and touch them.

38. was on the 36th floor -- the building swayed in strong wind
and yes, the views were spectacular. I wasn't there during the riots, but my good friend worked there then and said how odd it was to be able to see them progress from a bird's eye view, so to speak.

Traffic, I don't miss. But I usually was at work so darn late it wasn't an issue... at least not going home.
