Great. I managed to dump my entire iTunes library
I was trying to copy it to my laptop using these handy-dandy directions -

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US#second

The music is there, in a file on the computer (both computers as a matter of fact). I cannot get it to appear in either iTunes however. :banghead:

My library is still on my iPod, but there is nothing left in the iTunes folder to sync with so if I restore it to automatically sync, I'm thinking I'll end up with an empty iPod, too. Which means I can't add any music.

My head hurts. :nuke:

1. What is the benefit to automatic synch that makes it preferable to the manual drag & drop

Method? The risks seem obvious.

Hope you can work it out.

2. there is a way to grab the files from your ipod and put them on your pc
DONT START BEFORE VERIFYING THESE INSTRUCTIONS

it has something to do with enabling disk use on the ipod and locating a hidden file folder that holds all of the music. you copy that to your pc (it's all jumbled up, but will be straightened at the next step). then you add the new folder to your itunes library, it sorts everything out.

NOTE: I have not done this yet, but I have seen these instructions in several places for ripping the contents of other people's ipods to your own personal pc, then to your ipod.

DONT START BEFORE VERIFYING THESE INSTRUCTIONS
