I absolutely HATE reality shows
I know there are many who like them and I'm in the minority but I can't see any entertainment in watching shows where people are humiliated and then cast aside....I don't watch any of them....I saw part of one of the episodes of the first one...The Survivor?....and that was enough for me.....The premise of all of these shows is mean-spiritedness.....When will they start creating and writing decent shows again?

1. Not a big fan of them either...
I watched half an episode of the Survivor when they were in Africa, but it was boring, so I turned it. I honestly don't see what the big deal about reality tv is, except to show what awful things people will do to each other if a bunch of money is involved. Problem is, they'll probably replace reality tv with more banal sitcoms.

3. And what's entertaining about watching people eating worms and bugs?
I haven't watched that one, but they keep showing clips of it to advertise the show....Uuugghhh!

5. There's a bunch of them like that...
Fear Factor, Survivor... I even saw that MTV is doing that with their Real World vs. Road Rules thing. It's nasty, and embarassing, and pointless.

2. I won't watch them.
They throw actors and writers out of work. Cheap, union-busting trash.

4. Better reality shows
like "Junkyard Wars" demonstrate creativity and intelligence rather than high school politics.

6. I will give props to Junkyard Wars...
and Monster Garage. Some of the stuff they do on there is really interesting... it's amazing what they can build!

20. Those are shows worth watching (I wouldn't call them 'reality' TV).

They don't fall into my definition of 'reality' shows; they are not voyeuristic and melodramatic enough to fall into that genre.

13. Check it out
TLC currently on Tuesday and Sunday nights. Two teams are given 10 hours to build a machine out of junkyard parts. Then they compete to see which machine works best. Hovercraft, locomotives, cannons, demolition devices, even airplanes - all great fun. Sometimes the machines don't work, but no one is ever "humiliated".

The show originated as "Srapheap Challenge" in the UK.

14. It's not about that at all.
They put two teams against each other in a junkyard, and give them a couple days to build something out of scrap. Then they have to test out their machine at the end. They just tell them what the machine they make has to do (launch something, drive across uneven terrain, race, etc.), and turn them loose. It's a real study in human creativity and ingenuity.

17. Well that doesn't sound as if it is mean-spirited but
it really doesn't appeal to me....I don't even like when I have to change the batteries in my little radio...:D

18. Have you seen the show where they put
five scientists on an island and have them make scientific instruments from what they find there? That's a good one too - and no one is humiliated. They all cooperate and have a good time.

7. As soon as they break the Writers and Actors Guild
Who wants to pay actors $1M per episode when you can pay some bug-eating schmuck $50,000 for a season-ending grand prize?

9. I SO agree with you--they are just LAME
Why the hell should I care whether Melissa picks Taylor or Matt?

All those "suspenseful" cut away shots of people looking concerned right before commericals. They are the bane of tv--coupling the voyuerism of Jerry Springer with the banality of the soap opera.

If Survivor dropped six people into the Rockies and let you see which one lived the longest, they might have something. The contrived summer camp games they come up with is nothing.

11. The super bowl of reality shows is supposed to be Donald Trump's
Show...I forget the name, but what could be more edifying than watching the Donald fire someone every week....Wow...that's fun!.:puke:

15. I could watch someone get fired for real...
with our job market being so bad. It's in the news every day - "Conglomerate Company lays off 5,000 more workers." Why would I want to watch it on tv?

Survivor nearly bored me to death.

21. I hate them, too
The idea of watching boring, shallow publicity hounds in set-up situations is much less appealing than watching my fellow passengers is airport lounges.

And with all the excellent BBC programming available, I'm furious at BBCAmerica for filling up most of its schedule with Changing Rooms, Ground Force, and other tedious and repetitious "reality" shows.
